[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/lilbarrelracer429/tables/middle1-1.png]The water nymph’s dark eyes took in the stallion’s sleek body. It had taken a lot of hard work, grain, and time to get the stallion’s lost weight back on him. His coat was sleek now, his metallic sheen all the more prominent with the healthy glow he exhibited. His muscles were supple underneath the coat. He had been a beautiful specimen before, even underweight and beat up. But now he looked unworldly.
The water nymph herself had gained weight. A lot of it. The first half of the pregnancy had been hard on her. She’d been plagued by crippling nausea, to the point where she’d been hospitalized a few weeks for dehydration after her initial release since the attack. But after that fifth month, she’d settled into the pregnancy easily enough. She too had a glow about her that had little to do her water nymph beauty. She’d blossomed into a new woman since moving in with her boyfriend.
Addison sighed and leaned back against the fence, annoyed and tired. She’d been standing here for nearly an hour, trying to get Romeo to walk towards her. Trying to establish a connection and open the mind link, like…that night. She wiped her brow free of sweat and looked up at the sinking sun. Well, he’d soon get hungry and would give in, but she’d been hoping his defeat would be not because of his stomach.
Over the past few months, the stallion had had many ups and downs. He’d never tried to hurt her after the link had been discovered. On some occasions, she’d been able to touch him and once, she’d managed to convince him a rope was not a bad thing and led him around his paddock. But she’d yet to ‘speak’ to him ever since. A sharp kick to her kidney made her gasp softly. Her hand grasped at her swollen stomach and rubbed it with a grimace. Ugh, any day now, she’d be due. The kicks had quickly taken a turn for not so comfortable a month ago when the twins had decided to start fighting for space. For a two days now, she’d been having mild contractions, thought she knew that was normal. In fact, she hadn’t had any since last night. Regardless, she felt miserable and bloated and she wanted them out.
Romero snorted from his position, catching Addison’s attention again. Her gasp had caused the stallion to take a few steps forward, his black ears perked towards her. "Lovely, apparently my discomfort is what turns you on. Damn, twisted horse." She heard a chuckle behind her and whipped her head aorund to glare at her boyfirned. "It's not funny, damnit! Just you wait, Trevor Lee Moyer, you're next! Just you wait until the twins get here!" The stallion bobbed his head as if in agreement, and for a moment, she thought maybe the connection had opened. She turned her thoughts inward, but felt nothing had changed. She threw her hands up and let out a frustrated growl, turning to look at her boyfriend. "UGH! I give up, I have no idea I what I’m doing! Why can’t it be like you and Moon?" she asked, tears of frustration pricking her eyes.
Damn hormones. Damn horse. Damn everything.
Addison turned to the horse, who threw his head up at her sudden movement. "Just rot away in this pasture for all I care, you stupid, stubborn animal!" Romeo pinned his ears at her words and tone, his tail snapping at his flanks irritably. What had he done to deserve her harsh words? She’d been nothing but kind to him before hand. ’No need to get nasty. I do have a name and you of all humans should know it.’ Addison’s face instantly went blank, her mouth open in shock and eyes wide. She pointed a finger at the horse. Suddenly there was an intense, crippling pain in her stomach. She gave a small cry as she collapsed to her knees, the sound of water hitting the ground like cannon fire in her ears. Her water had broken. Her water had broken and here she was, having a shouting match with a horse. "T-trevor...tell me that...just didn't happen..."

[atrb=border,0,true][style=width:325px; font-family: times new roman; font-size: 13px; color: ffffff; text-align: justify; padding-right: 15px] Trevor sat in the grass outside the paddock, leaning back on his elbows, legs crossed in front of him. A grin of amusement was plastered on his face as he watched his very pregnant girlfriend try to connect with Romeo. Both of them were equally stubborn normally, and with Addison’s hormones all out of wack from the pregnancy, it was an even more amusing situation. All she was trying to really do was get the stallion to walk towards her, and the damn stud wouldn’t even do that for her. He almost felt bad for her. Almost. He knew there was nothing he could do for her. The position he was at in the grass was the closet he could get to the fence without the stallion running for the other side of the pasture.
Trevor’s gaze was brought to Addison when she gasped slightly, her hand moving to her stomach. He winced for her, glad he didn’t have to deal with the pain of bearing the child. He knew he was in for his turn when they were actually born, though. He glanced up to see Romeo taking a few steps toward Addison, who also noticed the stallion’s movement. Lovely, apparently my discomfort is what turns you on. Damn, twisted horse. Trevor couldn’t hold it back any longer, and chuckled loudly at Addison’s words. When she turned on him, he only continued to laugh, choosing to find her pregnancy anger funny. It’s not funny, damnit! Just you wait, Trevor Lee Moyer, you’re next! Just you wait until the twins get here! Still chuckling, Trevor shook his head from his position on the ground. ”What are they going to do, eat me? I don’t think I have anything to worry about, love.” He watched her throw her hands up in frustration, asking why it couldn’t be as easy as it was between him and Moon. ”Moon wasn’t abused in his past like Romeo was. It’s going to take a lot of work to get past those trust issues, Addison. You just gotta stick to your guns, he’ll let you in eventually.” Trevor stood slowly, brushing his jeans off, now being serious. He glanced up, confusion flashing across his face as Addison’s mouth dropped open and she pointed at Romeo, when she gave a small cry and dropped to her knees. ”Woah, Addison! What’s-“ But then he saw the dark, wetness on the back of her jeans, and he knew what had happened. He rushed into the pasture, helping Addison to her feet. T-trevor…tell me that…just didn’t happen… Trevor chuckled nervously. ”Oh it happened. The babies are on their way,” he murmured, eyes shining with excitement at the thought of being a father, yet worried to what exactly the school would do if they found out the babies were actually his. He shook his head and helped Addison out of the pasture. ”Come on, let’s get you to the truck.”

Romeo looked at her from his position as Trevor rushed into the pasture. The stallion pinned his ears for a split second before picking up the frantic thoughts running through Addison’s head. The stallion nickered, concerned. Last time she’d been this distressed, he had not seen her for nearly a month. Addison struggled to her feet with Trevor’s help, her eyes wide, but Romeo’s nickered caught her attention. She looked up at the stallion whom bobbed his head upon her looking at him. She forced a smile as Trevor led her away and into the truck; it had turned into a not so easy task a few months ago.
Addison tried to calm her racing heart and thoughts as Trevor climbed into the cab as well. She gripped the handle of the door with white knuckles, staring straight ahead of her. Trying to distract herself from the long battle she’d have ahead of her, she spoke. ”He spoke. I heard him, Romeo,” her voice was shaky. ”I think it happens...the connection, when I’m at an emotional high. That ni-” her voice shut down on her. They had not talked about that night in a long time.
She really didn’t want to ever think of it again. Her right hand lifted to her cheek. Hidden under make up, you couldn’t see them, but she had memorized the marks. She traced the scars along her cheek from where the gravel had shredded the tender, delicate skin. Now she had to think of it every time she looked in the mirror. She pulled her hand away, noticing just how badly her fingers were shaking. The fear sunk in quickly and her chest got tight. The first contraction of many hit her, a tight constriction that extended down her spine and made her toes curl. Her arms wrapped around her stomach and her breath came out a gasp. Some tiny voice in her head told her to start timing the contractions, but fear was quickly consuming her.
”Trevor…I’m scared...I don’t know-” her voice hitched with a silent sob as the weight of their position finally came crashing down. She was about to lose her brother, about to become a mother to two children that could very well put both her and Trevor in a world of unstability even more so than what they were at now. ”I don’t know if I can do this.”

Trevor drove as fast and yet as carefully as he possibly could, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as he sped towards the hospital. A million things were running through his mind, but all he wanted was for both of them to make it through this alive. He could hear her heart racing, and he glanced at her to see that she was extremely tense. He spoke. I heard him, Romeo. I think it happens…the connection, when I’m at an emotional high. That ni- Trevor glanced at her again and reached over and took her hand, squeezing it before returning his attention to the road. He didn’t know what to do or how to make her relax, he was at such a loss. ”Well it’s a step, eventually you can bridge the connection at all times, like me and Moon.” They drove in silence for a while, both seeming to be lost in their own minds. He was worried about their futures in general. What would they do for money? Was he going to lose his job? Would Addison be able to finish school? There were so many questions that were unanswered.
Trevor…I’m scared…I don’t know- I don’t know if I can do this. Trevor blinked and shook himself internally. He would have to stay strong for Addison. He would rather be focused on that than have a million questions flying through his head. He reached over and took her hand again, this time keeping his old on it and squeezing gently. ”You can do it. We’ll do it together and bring our family into the world.”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true][atrb=width,500,true] | [atrb=background,http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/lilbarrelracer429/tables/middle1-1.png]His hand grasped hers the moment her voice cut off, stopping the haunting, chilly eyes from invading her thoughts. People were being attacked around the school again, one of which had died of her wounds. Addison’s throat went dry thinking about it. That could have been her. That could be her right now lying in a grave somewhere. She took a deep breath and felt her shaking hands calm once more. His hand left hers to focus on driving and she turned her attention inward to focus on remaining calm. Then the contraction had hit, scattering her nerves to the wind. She spoke her fears, tears glistening in her eyes. And again, like her guardian angel, he was there, his hand grasping hers and squeezing it, his hold on her slim fingers staying this time. She grasped his hand like a life line, threading their fingers so that his hand completely engulfed hers and pressed their wrists together so that she could faintly feel the thump of his pulse through his skin against hers.
Wide, dark verdant eyes looked to her boyfriend as she realized that yes, she could be where that other water nymph was, but she was here. She was here, alive, on her way to the hospital to deliever two beautiful children with the man of her dreams. He had always been there for her and she’d taken it for granted a lot. At first she’d always thought he was just being nice, a gentleman. She’d seen him over the past few months treat others the way her father had always said a good man should. She’d once thought, in a fit of hormonal rage, that his affections for her were simply because she carried his spawn in her belly. But she’d always known that it was more than that. He’d called her nicknames before and she’d just brushed it off because she honestly didn’t want to delve into her own mixed emotions and whirlwind of deep, dark thoughts. But looking at him now, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel, going much too fast no doubt, his own pounding pulse...it was there. He loved her. He would do just about anything for her; he had done just about everything for at this point in time, actually. Her lips parted to speak, but a spasm caught her words. Her fingers tightened around his hand as she curled in on herself, gasping for breath as a much stronger contraction hit.

Trevor held Addison’s hand the rest of the way to the hospital, throwing the truck into park as they pulled into the parking lot outside of the ER. He slammed his door shut, rounding the truck to help Addison out of the other side and wound his arm around her waist. He glanced at her nervously, watching her face twist in pain as the contractions continued to hit her. He looked at the looming hospital, remembering the last time he had been in the ER. That had been when Addison was attacked by the low life scumbag that hadn’t been caught yet. But Trevor had heard whispers throughout the campus of other students being attacked, and he was starting to wonder if a group of criminals was at large. He pushed the thought out of his mind as they entered the doors, and he called out to the nurses about Addison being in labor. Addison was soon flopped down in a wheelchair and Trevor followed behind, leaning against a wall in the room they were brought into, staying out of the way of the doctors and nurses that were busy hooking Addison up to machines and such. He frowned in exasperation. Hell, he had been born in his parents’ barn for Christ’s sake. His mom had had one doctor come out to assist, and that was that. They hadn’t the money for some fancy hospital, and he had still turned out alright. After the doctors had cleared, Trevor pulled a chair up and flopped down in it, running a hand through his already messy hair. Now all they had to do was wait.

The all too familiar building loomed ahead like a dark cloud, bringing back the painful memories of the nights she’d spent there before her release. She could still remember waking up, screaming until her throat was raw. She’d never been happier to leave that place. This time was different though. Trevor’s hand left hers, jarring her from her thoughts. He appeared by her door and helped her out, his strong arm wrapping around her waist as he guided her into the lobby of the emergency room. A nurse rushed up to her with a wheelchair which she was seated in before being wheeled off to her room.
Addison let herself be moved about as the nurses flitted around, getting machines running, changing her into a hospital gown, and getting her bed made. She crawled into the bed and watched with wide eyes as the nurses bustled about. After a few minutes of getting the room ready the other nurses left, leaving behind a nurse she recognized from previous visits to finally sit down next to her. She offered Addison a smile as she explained each device they hooked her up to. Heart rate monitor, contraction monitor. Addison felt herself relax as the nurse took out a machine that she did recognize. An ultrasound machine. Addison watched the screen as the nurse checked on the position of the twins and then finished checking her out. She marked down the contraction times and, after inserting an IV, left the couple alone.
Addison leaned back against the pillows, her fingers fidgeting with first the covers, then moving to the IV on the back of her hand. She ran her fingers down the cold tube. She took a deep breath and looked around the room nervously, trying to ignore the rising panic and the memories threatening to creep up on her. A sharp kick from who she knew was her daughter made her gasp softly. Her hand fluttered down to her rounded belly and she traced circles around the area where her daughter had kicked. A fluttered of movement gave a warning before the baby gave another sharp kick. ”Ow! Damnit, Mikaela, you can’t wait a few hours can you,” she hissed out as her free hand grasped the sheets beneath her fingers.

When the nurses had dispersed Trevor moved slowly to the side of her bed, sitting down in one of the chairs provided in the room. He watched her intently, noticing how she fidgeted with everything, the covers, then her IV. She was nervous. He had learned many things about Addison, her habits that showed her moods being some of the things. But there was still so much he felt that he didn’t know about her. They had a connection, yes, but he felt there was something still in the way. Something that was blocking their ability to be completely connected to each other. That’s all he wanted, was to finally have a good, solid connection with someone.
He glanced at her when she gasped and moved her hand to her stomach, then chuckled when she cursed at their daughter. ”Better learn to watch your mouth once they’re born. They’ll pick up on that real quick.” He cleared his throat and rubbed the stubbles on his chin. He really didn’t know what to say to her or what to do. Their son and daughter were about to be born into the world, and he still wasn’t sure how they were going to go about hiding it from the school board. He had come to terms with the fact that he was going to be a father with a teenaged mother. Frankly, he had just pushed that out of his mind. He was only concerned with the fact of him being a good, strong father for his children. He wouldn’t throw them away like his family had done to him.

She’d never been much of one with a bad mouth, but their children, and Romeo, seemed to bring it out of her lately. Addison turned her attention back to the movement underneath her hand, tracing soft circles in an effort to calm down their restless daughter. She sighed heavily as Mikaela settled her frantic movements down to the occasional flutter of a movement. Addison stared at the tiled ceiling above her for a moment, trying to ignore the awkward silence of the room.
”Elephant…” she murmured after a few minutes had passed of them not speaking. Realizing just how weird that might have sounded (the mild pain meds they’d given her had kicked in after all), she looked at Trevor with a forced smile. He no doubt saw through it though. She sighed and sat up slowly, letting her hand continue to trace lazy patterns across her large stomach. ”I’m sorry. I’m always saying I’m not good at this, and I’m not, but that’s no excuse for me not trying,” she whispered softly. ”I’m always bottling things up and you’re always so patient with me, trying to let me say what’s wrong on my own terms. You must think me some horrible per-” she winced sharply as a contraction gripped her, drawing in a sharp breath through her nose. The narcotics dulled the pain, but it didn’t mean the pain was completely gone.
She released her breath through her mouth a few minutes later as the contraction subsided. She lifted both her hands to her face and scrubbed at her eyes, growling under breath at her own stupid tears. ”Just how are we gonna do this? Someone is bound to find out; secrets are never meant to stay in the dark forever,” she ground out, a hand drifting back to her stomach. A gentle flutter in her upper abdomen made her smile bitterly. Her hand drifted to their son as Aiden’s gentle movements soothed her. He’d never been much of a kicker, leaving his sister to torment their mother. But late at night, their son would awaken from his quiet existence and coax Mikaela into submission. ”It won’t be fair to them; no child should grow up in secret,” she said, her thoughts straying to Sam. No one knew of his existence unless they were involved with Addison personally.

Trevor merely raised an eyebrow at Addison’s glaring, knowing that she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it even if it did irritate her. Nor did he really care. He cleared his throat and glanced around as the silence fell between the two of them. Once again he had that feeling that there was still something in the way of their relationship, a sort of barrier that the needed to get over before it got any higher. He looked up at Addison as he heard her voice. Elephant… He raised an eyebrow, reaching over and feeling her forehead. ”You okay? If you’re seeing elephants I should probably call the doctor in.” He grinned at her, hoping she would take his joking lightly since she didn’t seem to be in a very good state. He tilted his head as she sat up, wondering if she was allowed to do that or if he should be forcing her to stay lying. I’m sorry. I’m always saying I’m not good at this, and I’m not, but that’s no excuse for me not trying. I’m always bottling things up and you’re always so patient with me, trying to let me say what’s wrong on my own terms. You must think me some horrible per- Trevor glanced up sharply at the cut off of her words, then relaxed when he realized it was only a completely normal contraction. His eyes grew serious as he stared at Addison, taking in her facial features, trying to figure out where she was taking this. ”Addison, I’m not going to force you to do or say anything you don’t want to. Do I wish you would share things with me? Yes. Do I sometimes not understand why you don’t share them with me? Yes. But all the same, it would be rude of me to force you to tell me anything or to do anything you’re uncomfortable with.” His brow furrowed as Addison rubbed at her face and he reached over and took her hands, noticing the moisture on her face. ”What’s wrong, Addison? Do you need more pain meds? I can call the nurse in here, I’m sure they’d give you more.” He studied her expression, blinking at her next statement. Just how are we gonna do this? Someone is bound to find out; secrets are never meant to stay in the dark forever. Trevor fell back into his chair, his hands falling in his lap, gaze still on Addison. He didn’t know what to say. He had told her before he worried about it, but he had tried to be reassuring about it. Turns out he hadn’t done such a good job of that. It won’t be fair to them; no child should grow up in secret. Trevor groaned and rubbed his hands over his face, sighing and shaking his head. ”Yes, yes, I know…” He turned and looked out the window at the sprawling town below them. He knew they wouldn’t be able to keep themselves a secret. It would have to come out, and they would have to deal with the consequences. ”We won’t be able to keep it a secret, we both know that. And when the time comes for everyone to find out, well… we’ll just have to figure out how to deal with it then, I guess.” He stopped himself there, but his mind continued his thought. They would deal with it, yes, but how would the school deal with it? He would probably lose his job and be made a mockery of the entire town. They wouldn’t be able to pay for anything… and then what? He glanced at Addison, knowing he should voice his real fears to her, but he didn’t want to worry her about this.

Sweat was beginning to bead upon her forehead as her body was slowly working its way through the process of preparing her for the birth of her children. She listened quietly to his explanation of how he was always so patient with her. She never understood it. She treated him horribly, always telling him things at the last minute or not even bothering to tell him about it until it was already out in the open. She pulled her knees up to her chest as best as her rotund stomach would allow and bent her head down to rest it upon her knees. She bit her lip sharply as the tears continued to roll down her cheeks. She wanted to ask why he was still here with her, but she knew that answer. These were his children just as much as they were hers.
He wouldn’t give them up. Even if he lost his job when it came out, he wouldn’t let her raise his children without him there. She had been so stupid that night. She really didn’t know what to think of it other than she’d been weak, naïve, and foolish. She should have known better than to let herself succumb to her own fantasies. She could easily have said it was Trevor who had seduced her, but honestly, it was her who did more of the seducing whether she realized it or not. Besides, the road they had gone down was a two way street.
”I’m sorry,” she murmured into her knees. Her fingers tightened their grips on her arms, her nails biting harshly into her pale skin. ”I should have paid more attention. Maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess if I had thought thing through, didn’t act on my emotions. I’m sorry I’ve been such a horrible person to you, hiding things from you. I never meant to. It’s just...it’s so damn hard to let anyone in. I’m afraid they will get close and…leave,” she whimpered, the word painful as she thought about James leaving them. Their mother slipping away to the point of no return, even going so far as to verbal lash out at Sam and her. She’d never let Trevor know what her mother called her now a days or that one time the woman had thrown a vase at her. It wasn’t because she didn’t trust him. She just simply didn’t want anyone to know or to remember. Acknowledging the words would be like admitting that her mother was right. ”Maybe she is right...” she whispered to herself, not realizing her thoughts had slowly transferred to her tongue.

Trevor watched Addison move to rest her chin on her knees, understanding her tears were not from physical pain but from emotional pain. And emotions were not something he was good with. He listened to her, rubbing the stubble on his chin, gazing past her bed to the wall on the other side. He hoped they would get past this. He just wanted their children to be born and for them to go home and to raise them together, as a family. When he realized she had stopped talking, he sighed and took her hand once more. ”Addison, we both made that decision without thinking anything through. It wasn’t just you. And I’m not going anywhere, I can promise you that. Now stop this stupidity, you have other things to worry about than these little things.” He stared at her, wishing he knew more of what to say. But he didn’t know why she kept dwelling on that night. It had happened a whole 9 months ago, and nothing could be done about it. Maybe she is right… Trevor blinked a few times at her words. ”Who was right?”

Addison clenched her eyes shut, fighting through a particularly painful contraction and the pain from her mental anguish. Why couldn't she let it go? It should be so easy! 'His children are about to take their first breaths, they'll be the living proof that that night happened. Why can't I ju-'
'Who was right?'
The question was like a physical slap in the face. Her body froze up and slowly, the changes over came her. She was shutting him out, her eyes turning away, her body shivering as if ice had seeped into her very bones. Her teeth worried her bottom lip and her fingers released her arms to fiddle with the sheets beneath her.
The silence was tangiable and painful.
"You promise?" Her voice was paper thin, tiny and desperate, clinging to that silent hope that he would be there for her, to help through it all. Her whole body was shaking, begging to allow herself to just come out and say it, that her mother was the creature of her nightmares, the sower of her seeds of doubt. Gods, she wanted to tell him, but it was so hard to tell him. So much harder than it should it be. "No one...no, she-" her voice was choked off, her body fighting to decide to just simply spit it out or not. Her chest was tight and her lungs burned, she fought to take a sharp breath of air, but she could only gasp and sob. If she said anything, would that woman come bursting in to exact her revenge.
'Look at me, terrified of my own mother. The woman who carried me for nine months, gave birth to me, who raised me.' The rational side of her mind spoke, disgusted with herself. And yet, the irrational one countered each, 'The woman who cannot care for her son so desperate for her, the woman who crushed you, threw a vase at you, the woman who attempted to harm you.'
A sharp coiling in her belly, liquid fire racing up her back, brought her from her thoughts and the pain pushed her past the breaking point. She needed him, needed his comforting embrace, his warm light, she couldn't bare the dark thoughts alone anymore. "Lillith," she rasped out with a gut wrench sob. "Mother...she...she threw-she threatened to...to take Sam away. She-" she couldn't finish as she brought an arm to wrap protectively around the lives she carried, as if to shield them from the silent threat her mother represented. "She's....she's our mother...but she terrifies me...and Sam...he...she haunts me, every waking minute-" a sharp intake of air and a hand scrubbing furiously at her streaked, red face, nails scratching at the scar there "She won't leave me alone, even when I'm so far away from her."

Trevor watched with concern and confusion. It seemed they were always coming back to this point. Addison would start to open up to him, then slam the door in his face and coil in on herself. It was so frustrating to him because he wanted to do nothing more than to protect her from whatever was bad in her past. But he knew he could never actually do that, especially if she never told him what was in her past. He didn’t know why she didn’t trust him enough to tell her. He had told her basically everything in his past a long time ago.
You promise? It was barely a whisper and he squeezed her hand and nodded, ”Addison, I wouldn’t be here right now if I didn’t mean it.” He continued to sit there and watch her, even as she coiled in further on herself, and he sighed in frustration as he recognized the signs of her pulling away from him once again.
No one…no, she- He squeezed her hand again, encouraging her. He wanted to know. He wanted to help her in any way he could. Lillith. Mother…she…she threw-she threatened to…to take Sam away. She- She’s….she’s our mother…but she terrifies me…and Sam…he…she haunts me, every waking minute- She won’t leave me alone, even when I’m so far away from her. Trevor listened to her story intently, his stomach dropping more and more. He realized now that he had heard stories about everyone in her family except for her mother. If her mother was really something that would be a threat to her, that was something he could protect her from. Something tangible. But he couldn’t protect her from her own mind.
He crawled into the small bed, carefully pulling her into his lap and wrapping his arms around her, careful of the small IV tubes and her extended stomach. ”Addison, I would never let anyone hurt you, even your own mother. And I’m not going anywhere…” He bit his lip, then pulled her a little closer. ”I love you, Addison. And our family.”

Each passing second her mind retreated further within itself. With each passing second, something within her screamed at her for letting him in on one of the darkest (if not the ultimate) secrets of her life. If only she could just fall into the darkness and wither away until it was bright outside.
Her breath caught in her throat as she felt her body being shifted. She opened her red eyes and turned her tear stained cheeks to look up at Trevor as he held her so delicately. Yet his arms were firm, a shield between her and the outside world. She turned her face into his chest, a soft hiccup leaving her as she struggled to talk a calming breath. Her hands gripped his shirt tightly and she managed to take a deep breath, his scent accompanying the much needed oxygen. Like the rain running down her face, his scent, his arms, his voice, chased away the darkness. Her tense body quickly relaxed at his touch, her fingers gripping his shirt tighter as his arms tightened around.
I love you.
The words took her breath away, made her stomach flip and her heart race and flutter within her chest. A smile pulled at her face, and suddenly the tears were no longer for her pain. She turned her face away from his chest so her ear was pressed against his chest. She listened to the steady thump of his heart, the very heart she now held, just as he had captured hers.
It was amazing just how him being so close could cause such a drastic change.
”Mother...what she has…it runs in her family. But she wasn’t always like this, she was good until…” she whispered, trying to pass the time and knowing she couldn’t back out now. ”When Dad died, James, my older brother, was left the farm. Lillith just…withered away. And then James left, handed over custody of me and Sam. With Lillith in the mental institute, Sam turned to me. I was granted emancipation since our case was special and dropped out of school for two years, at least until Lillith was released.” She released a hand from his shirt and carefully intertwined their fingers. ”And then I enrolled at Cry Wolf High to finish school. And met you. And now here we are,” she murmured, squeezing his hand and drawing a sharp breath as a contraction gripped her firmly.
