[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]The car pulled into the parking lot of the well known zoo, as the fae shifted the gear into park, but left the engine running for a moment. Pulling up the paperwork from the passenger seat, she pushed her sunglasses up, using them to keep her blonde hair briefly pulled out of her face, black low lights peeking out from the strands as the Fae Queen observed the information that had been sent to her office the previous day. The zoo had been told that the hyena exhibit needed an updated landscape, more tailored to the predators who called it home. Glancing at the existing pictures, the fae wasn't surprised. It looked a little too forested in her opinion, not nearly savannah enough. And the amount they had budgeted for the project would definitely help in redoing the mess the current landscaping seemed to be in. It might even give her enough play money to match the landscaping near the visitor sections of the exhibit to mirror the new interior.
It would be a challenge - and one that would keep her away from her beloved Botanical Gardens for a bit, but it would help the Gardens to have this sort of partnership with the zoo anyway. Placing the information back in the binder she'd brought, the fae finally turned the key in the engine, silencing the vehicle as she opened the door and stepped out, straightening the long pale blue shirt peeking out from beneath the black leather jacket that had given her father a heart attack the last time Oberon had seen her. Mother of course hadn't shown any concern. A bit of rebelling was in Caelum's blood anyway. Turning away from her car, the young woman headed towards the main office to pick up her visitor credentials that would allow her back-side access to the hyena enclosure.
Her boots clicked comfortably as she smiled at a few voices that greeted her upon seeing her, having grown up in Cry Wolf High meant much of the supernatural population knew the Queen by name (and few thankfully used the title). She was quickly shown the way to the Director's office, where he greeted her warmly and with a familiarity that left Caelum feeling a touch uncomfortable despite the forced smile, Oh, we're so glad you were available, your gift with nature is almost as well known as your title, Miss Knoxx, can I call you Caelum. Anyways, Caelum, we've got a large budget for this project, but I'm sure for you; we can always work out a way to get more money if we need it. The uncomfortable feeling seemed to intensify the longer he gushed over her, who she was, and what he could get for her while she was assisting with the zoo before finally Caelum had to interrupt (having been not given an opening to talk yet), "I am grateful for the opportunity to assist Audubon Zoo with this project, but I'm fairly certain the current budget will be more than enough. If I could get the credentials to get me to the exhibit, I best be on my way and see what I'm working with." She finally stated with a kind smile but a diplomatic tone.
The fool wasn't to be discouraged however, even as the badge was slid her way, Yes, yes of course! If you need anything . . . . anything at all . . . . please do not hesitate to come to see me, you know where my office now. Anything at all, Caelum. Caelum smiled, even as she quickly bolted from the room as soon as polite interactions would allow, following directions on nearby signs to the exhibit while silently promising herself to not need ANY REASON to have to return to that office. A sad, sort of bittersweet smile crossed her features, If Trey had been there, he'd have likely tried to throttle the man. Would have had to be escorted out by security I imagine . . . It was no longer as painful to think upon the disappearing demon, but her heart still panged with the memory of his disappearance. Unfortunately, the thoughts brought her back to the letter that sat open and ripped in half on her coffee table from her father expressing his delight in informing her of an arranged marriage, a purely political move that left Caelum feeling like she choking on dust. An arranged marriage - she was Queen, shouldn't she have been allowed to know about this (and deny it)?
She forced those bitter thoughts from her head, choosing to not worry about it, it wasn't like she'd run into this Elf Prince any time soon: whatever his name was? Reece? Ross? Whatever. She tossed her long hair over her shoulder, charcoaled eyes narrowed in distaste before she forced a deep breath from her body, releasing the tension as quickly as she could. Feeling lighter after repeating the deep breathing five times to the count of eight, her wings gently began to flutter, lifting her into the air and leaving a soft trail of fairy dust coating the ground as she made her way through the maze to the back-side of the hyena enclosure.
Glancing around, she soon found a work that assured her that the hyenas were currently tucked away in the inner enclosure, leaving the main enclosure empty. Nodding her thanks, Caelum opened the employee door and flew into the exhibit. Instantly she was hit with the knowledge that the pictures hadn't done the wreck any favors - in fact, it was remarkably worse than she was expecting, "Oh my . . . ." The queen mumbled, her fingertips touching her lips in wide-eyed horror as she slowly turned a circle to stare at the mess she could see. "This just won't do. Not at all. This was used for hyenas? It looks more like a South American Jungle than an African Serengeti. I was at least hoping for African Rain Forest!" Her despair grew as she realized just how big this task would be, before she lowered herself to the ground, kneeling down to finger the soil, her face judgemental as she looked around, trying to decide just where to begin, "This entire place needs to be ripped down . . . I don't even see any kind of cave or climbing area for them! Just trees, and tall grasses . . . No, this just won't do!" She stated, even as her hand flared out in an open palm motion, instantly cutting the grass into the enclosure to barely an inch long, allowing her to see more of what was hidden by the tall grass, a brief flash of fire in her gaze as she accepted the challenge mentally.
Even if it took her half a year, she'd get this place up to standard. The poor animals deserved it. [attr="class","bhsnotess"] [attr="class","bhsimg"] [attr="class","bhsnotes"] Tag @rhysandadamdrake [break] Words 1305 w/coding [break] Notes -cackles softly- [break] Outfit Clickie!

Rhys laughed as he watched his favorite creatures play and wrestle. The matriarch stood tall, her whooping cackle echoing in the enclosure. Beside her, the lead male was watching the exhibit around them. A second female stopped and perked her ears as she gazed at the foliage.
"Njeri, Azizi, Kali... What do you see my darlings?" Rhys's velvety voice echoed softly as he got to his feet and stepped closer to the hyenas.
"Intruder..." Njeri, the matriarch, said softly.
"Hmmm... A guest that got lost perhaps. What do you think, should we explain to them why the exhibits are off limits?" The elf prince chuckled darkly, one hand resting on the male's back. "Azizi, head to the right." He tapped the male's back and nudged him the correct direction.
"Kali, darling... Why dont you head to the left." Rhys directed, caressing the youngest hyena's ear before nudging her to the left.
"Njeri... Lets see who is encroaching our territory..." Rhysand spoke, his voice filled with power. A cackling response erupted from the trio, the loudest remaining Njeri as she was still at his side. With a nod, the more submissive hyenas bolted in the correct direction while he and the leader paced forward toward the creature that had invaded the home of his precious hyenas.
The minutes passed as the hyenas moved from running noisily through the exhibit to stalking through the grasses toward the pale creature that was in their home. Azizi and Kali moved to block her escape, being behind her from where their leader and keeper would appear while still being on either side of her. A few laughing calls between the trio let Rhys know everything he needed to know about his charges. Stepping out from where he was hidden, Rhys and Njeri approached the being.
"Are you sure you should be here? It is dangerous to encroach on the territory of predators that have the 7th strongest bite force known in the animal kingdom... Most guests would rather play with the zebras or something..." He called, his velvet voice rumbling through the air as it reached the stranger.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]Caelum had been promised an empty enclosure. Promised a chance to survey what she would need to do to get this place up to a more appropriate environment that did NOT look like it was a scene from a Mayan treasure hunt. The badge dangling from around her neck had easily allowed her access, her own magic was alive within nature itself, and it was that magic that whispered the warning to the Queen. It was that magic that gave her just enough of a heads up to know something as wrong, that something was coming. And then her eyes closed, her magic flaring out and in her mind's eye, in the power that amplified the life around her, she sensed the auras pulsating with energy, with life. Two behind her, two in front of her. Her gaze turned sharply into the direction moments before the two stepped out into the open. Instantly Caelum was standing tall, her gaze cold and aloof, betraying none of the fear that she'd pressed into a ball when the creature she was GUARANTEED to be locked in the indoor enclosure walked out with a dark male who distinctly looked elven. Lovely. Just lovely. His words were less than pleasant, and she met his gaze with one of distinct dismay at the situation in front of her, even as her magic informed her that the two auras behind her matched the creature at his side. She was surrounded. By predators. She included the elf in that description as well. " Not a guest." She stated, her voice calm, even as she held up the badge around her neck that proved her words, " I'm the hired help to relandscape this enclosure, although I was promised no predators in the enclosure while I did my initial survey." Her tone dropped low in annoyance, even as her eyes narrowed at the elf, " Mind calling off the two behind me as well? I don't like predators breathing down my neck." Even as she said it, her wings flipped out, propelling down to lift her into the air enough to hover a foot off the ground, angling her wings just right that should the call be to take her down (as she'd been told an elf would be willing to do to a fae) she would be able to clear the range in a matter of milliseconds rather than have to go from ground to that distance. Never had she been more grateful for her quick flight ability. Her gaze remained focused on the dark man however, even as her white hair flowed in front of her face briefly, blocking out part of the blue eyes - both characteristics she'd received from her mother's hidden heritage. The fae Queen kept herself calm, hovering however, as she eyed the dark elf, she had to assume he was dark with those hair and eyes, " Are you keeper of the enclosure?" She finally asked, breaking the silence, " Perhaps, instead of hostility, we can put differences aside, and tolerate one another long enough for me to fix up this exhibit so it actually matches an African setting?" She offered after a long moment. Hostility tended to hover in the air when elf and fae met, she could only hope this situation wouldn't keep escalating to that . . . but damn, could he put the damn hyenas away first?! Rhys chuckled darkly as he watched the little female. "Dont tell me that these laughing beasts make you nervous..." He cooed as he patted Njeri. Letting a low whistle escape his lips, he summoned Azizi and Kali to join him. With a few gestures, he had the trio on alert but laying passively at his feet. With a nod to the trio, he stepped forward and approached the tiny figure. She was pretty little thing, for a fairy.
"I will have you know... letting me know that you dislike a predator breathing down your neck might have been a bad move..." Rhys murmured, his velvet voice sultry as he circled her and took her in. "Predators walk on two legs as often as four..." One finger slid through her hair as he stalked behind her. Moving back to face her, he stood with his hands in his pockets and a smirk on his face.
"It seems that the message was not passed to the keeper. I was not informed of any hired help coming today. Though I would be more than happy to assist you. We can even get the hyena's approval on your plans, since this is their home..." Rhys chuckled as he shot a glance at Njeri and her packmates.
I am Rhysand Drake. The hyenas are Njeri, Azizi, and Kali." He introduced the hyenas, watching as each dipped his or her head in response to the name spoken. The crown prince refused to use that as a crutch, leaving his introduction at his name. He dipped into a shallow bow before straightening and running a hand through the dark locks as he waited for her response.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]The dark chuckle had Caelum straightening just a touch more, expression a mix of cool neutrality and slight apprehension, those his cooed words had that apprehension mixing with distrust as her sharp blue eyes narrowed a touch. " Oddly enough, I find the one commanding them to be the one that should watch," She retorted a touch sharper than her training should have allowed. A deep breath, a silent reminder to herself to remember who she was. She had an entire population that she had to keep herself together and centered on. Even if she continued to rebel in ways that irritated the court more than they cared to admit. Still, his low whistle had the final two hyenas joining him before they were laying down around him. She didn't really feel any better though as he approached her. It took all her self control not to back away in response. Stay strong, stay tall, she was a queen. No elf was going to get the best of her. His words had her back straightening though, fire flashing in her blue eyes, as she prepared to meet his challenge head-on with cold indifference. " How foolish of me, of course, I wouldn't want to feed an elf's exaggerated ego and provoke their need to constantly prove their better than anyone else," She retorted, trying not to fidget as he circled her, even as her wings faintly hummed as if she was going to bolt into the air at any moment. As soon as that finger slid through her hair, she had moved, two steps forward to be out of immediate reach as she spun to glare at him, even as he smirked, hands now in his pockets, " Do not touch me." She snapped, her own hands moving to her hips, her wings practically invisible with how quickly they were buzzing in irritation, keeping her hovering just a few inches off of the ground. Unfortunately, her thoughts were correct, this was the keeper. Could she request a different one, please? Perhaps with better manners? " Hardly my fault if you were not told. I'd blame the director . . ." She stated, flipping her hair over her shoulder, flashing the black strands buried among the ivory, the dye job that had caused two of her court to faint at the side and complain about 'the demon darkness tainting their fair Queen.' Not that sweet Trey had ever been dark, even his demonic side had been so soft to her. So gentle. So childlike. Their fainting had been the highlight of that meeting. Maybe she should add some red in with the black. Would getting a tattoo be too much? Focus, Cael." Oh, the . . . hyenas . . . are going to assist?" Did she sound nervous? She hoped not. She forced a quick, calming breath before glancing back towards the elf when he introduced himself. Rhysand Drake . . . . why did that name sound familiar? She was silent for a moment, trying to place it, though the part of her that knew exactly what it meant buried that information so far away so she'd never have to think about it that it now escaped her the moment she needed it. As the hyenas were introduced, she was actually pleasantly surprised to see each dip their head. Clearly they were smarter than some of the studies had given them credit for. Caelum watched his bow before she swept herself into the slightest curtsy, nothing near as formal as a traditional setting would account for, but measured to perfectly accompany the shallow bow. " Caelum Knoxx, I go by Cael." No further introduction was given, no further introduction in her mind was warranted. She didn't advertise who she was to those who wouldn't recognize her, she didn't like the attention. Not when she was Princess and certainly not now that she held the crown firmly in her hand. With any luck, this elf wouldn't recognize the name either. " I manage the Botanical Gardens, so I was hired to rework the landscape, and do what I can so apparently some activists would stop calling the Director nightly. Might slip them his cell phone regardless, creepy bastard." The last sentence was practically growled beneath her breath, still, a touch unnerved with his behavior and borderline proposition earlier that morning, before she turned back to the elf and his hyenas, slipping into business mode. " Well, regardless. I need an idea of what to do with this space, tell me their habits and preferences, I imagine some sort of cliff setting would be appreciated, and I can't imagine they enjoy this heavy forested look at all. How do they feel about trees in general, and how large of a pool do they prefer?" Her attention had pulled away from them, a notebook opening and a pen already scribbling down a bunch of notes as her eyes seemed to glance around at the foliage, " Any preference on the density of savannah grass? What about adding in other grasses too? Hard soil or soft? Bushes or no bushes? Step further, sage or no sage?" Maybe if she focused on the task at hand, so would he, and she could be done with this project and never have to see him again. Oh if only she knew. i hope you're ready for a fast ride cause that's what we're going for "Oddly enough, I find the one commanding them to be the one that should watch," Oh if she only knew... But then again, he was enjoying her not knowing exactly who he was. "Perhaps watching all of the predators in the world is harder than it seems. Maybe you need a predator to watch your back and keep you safe..." His voice dropped a few octaves as he spoke, pale eyes flashing.
"How foolish of me, of course, I wouldn't want to feed an elf's exaggerated ego and provoke their need to constantly prove their better than anyone else. Do not touch me." Rhys laughed softly, his voice dark thunder. "Dont worry darling... My ego is not in need of feeding." If she only knew how much he did not need to be encouraged. His court had done enough of that through the years and he was the sole heir to the throne. "Are all pretty fae so touchy about being touched?" He asked, stepping closer and running a finger along her shoulder.
"Hardly my fault if you were not told. I'd blame the director . . ." When she trailed off, he raised an eyebrow. Did she not like him? Well... who would like him... The director was a piece of work. It was a problem that Rhys was very tempted to step in and take care of. "The director may be on limited days if things do not shape up..." He stated softly, wondering what the creep had done to make her so uncomfortable.
"Oh, the . . . hyenas . . . are going to assist?" Njeri let loose a cackle and stared at the female with intense eyes. "Easy Nje... She didnt mean anything by it. Not all are as open to assistance from such a powerful predator." The matriarch stood and stepped closer, her fangs bared. This time, they were not directed at the little invader, but at Rhys. "Excuse me... Do NOT give me attitude." He seethed as the matriarch stepped closer. When the female hyena leapt toward him, Rhys stepped to the side and wrapped the female in shadows. "I said... do not. You will remember who the leader is in this pack, or I will remove you and place Kali in your place." He snarled, his face beside the darkness that was twisting and writhing. When Njeri stopped snarling, he released the magic and stood back up. The female stalked back to her pack and laid down, her back turned to the dark prince that had just reasserted his dominance. "I apologize for Njeri's tantrum. She is new to the leadership and is still testing her boundaries." Rhys said calmly as he turned back to the pale fairy.
"Caelum Knoxx, I go by Cael. I manage the Botanical Gardens, so I was hired to rework the landscape, and do what I can so apparently some activists would stop calling the Director nightly. Might slip them his cell phone regardless, creepy bastard." Knoxx... Knoxx.. Wasnt that the surname of the fae king? Shaking away the thoughts, he dipped into a regal bow and smiled. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Cael. Is there some reason that you seem to actively hate our oh so wonderful director?" He asked, his eyes begging for a reason to assert his position and get rid of the pathetic piece of life.
"Well, regardless. I need an idea of what to do with this space, tell me their habits and preferences, I imagine some sort of cliff setting would be appreciated, and I can't imagine they enjoy this heavy forested look at all. How do they feel about trees in general, and how large of a pool do they prefer? Any preference on the density of savannah grass? What about adding in other grasses too? Hard soil or soft? Bushes or no bushes? Step further, sage or no sage?" Rhys was bombarded with questions and he glanced at the pack. Njeri was still adamantly ignoring him, so he called to Azizi. "Az, please come here and lay quietly. Kali and Njeri... Head back to your den and stay there. If you break my command, I will know and things will get ugly." His voice was cold and hard as he spoke to the females. Both stood, Kali shooting him a glance for mercy, and then loped back to their den with a cackle. "Az, this is Caelum. She is a friend." Rhys said gently, kneeling beside the smaller male and patting him. The young hyena gazed at Cael and then stepped forward. Judging the distance, he rose onto his back legs and braced himself on her shoulders. "Caelum, just stay calm. He wants to greet you and take your measure. If you panic, he will be more tempted to harass you later." Rhys said kindly, hoping to reassure her that the predator with an 1,100 PSI bite force was not going to hurt her. Azizi cackled once, nudged her jaw, and then dropped back to the ground. With a huffing laugh, the hyena stood beside Rhys and began to give his opinions.
"Az says cliff yes, forest gone please... Trees are ok, but more spread and less. Pool size, medium to small and more on the shallow side. They would prefer a stream with moving water to a stagnant pond. No preference on grass, grass good. Other grasses find, but no sage. Sage stinks. Soil doesnt matter, perhaps varied hardness. Bushes are fine." Rhys translated the hyena's words to the best of his ability. "Sorry, the hyenas dont speak in quite the same manner as us. Perhaps slowing down a bit on the questions would help everyone to understand what is being asked. You have nothing to fear from us, that much I can vow." Rhys smiled, feeling a gentleness toward the little fairy that was unusual for him.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]The situation with this elf was more than a touch uncomfortable, unusual even. She had no idea who he was, but she definitely had a sense that he should be watched carefully. His voice seemed to drop a few octaves as he spoke, commenting on the difficulty of watching all the predators. Instantly her hand flew to her wrist, her palm, briefly rubbing at the scars left from the iron cell the kidnappers had put her in all those months ago, a flash of the scarring visible with her actions, before she forced herself calm again, though his suggestion of a predator watching her back had her huffing, " I can take care of myself." She wasn't so weak anymore. She'd learned to not rely on others as much. She remembered the pain of Trey not showing up to rescue her, of his MIA status, of that fearsome predator no longer protecting her. No, this elf wasn't the biggest danger she'd been face to face to, and she wouldn't trust him either. His laugh surprised her, tilting her head when he commented that his ego wasn't in the need of feeding, and her eyes narrowed slightly, " Ah, I see, so perhaps it's in need of a solid deflating? Someone to ground you back to earth?" She retorted sarcastically before he moved forward again. His words prepared her for his actions but she still flinched at his finger against her clothed shoulder, visibly shying away as her back went ramrod straight, her shoulders squaring, her jaw setting, " Are all egotistical elves so against respecting personal boundaries." She was reacting before she could properly think, smacking his hand away from her with a sharp slap then she'd intended, and putting a good few more steps of space between them, her icy blue eyes staring him down, " Keep your hands to yourself." The queen stated, her tone bordering on the tone used with an unruly subject. His words on the director had her tilting her head however, " Wouldn't be too great of a loss if he were to be . . . removed, I'm sure." She commented offhand, giving no extra information. However, at the comment on the hyenas, it was clear to her she'd said the wrong thing when instantly one of the females was cackling and staring her down. Caelum took a step back, raising her hands in a sign of peace, even as her gaze jumped to the elf in surprise when he suddenly spoke in her defense, which of course only caused a non-physical fight to break out between the predator and the elf, the two clearly trying to show power. Caelum kept quiet through the entire situation, forcing herself to not back up, to not react. Especially when the elf began to throw out the dark magic the dark elves were known for. The apology was unexpected as well, and she forced her breathing to remain normal, even if the blood had paled from her face, " I should have worded it better," she responded diplomatically, her gaze shifting to the angered hyena, speaking to it directly, " I apologize . . . I meant no disrespect. It's hard not to be unnerved in front of a powerful predator who could probably snap me in two with one might," She stated gently, casually stroking the ego of the upset hyena. The male then bowed deeper, more regal, and the motion caused Caelum to momentarily pause, forcing herself to not fall into the answering deep curtsy that would be more fitting in a high society event that such a bow was usually used for. Do not react. Do not react. Do not react. Her fingers still twitched, her weight still shifted, but the curtsy did not happen. Instead, she dipped her head slightly, cautiously, tilting her head as he spoke again, asking about her hate of the director. Instantly the blood rapidly pooled back into her face, her cheeks turning rose, and her eyes quickly looking away, " It is of no concern to you . . . If it becomes an issue . . . ." Her gaze darkened, her pretty features turned into the kind of mischievous smirk she'd seen Trey pull that whispered his dark affiliations, " Well, if he becomes an issue, I'll deal with it myself, you might not have much of a director left when I'm done of course." The necklace around her neck seemed to heat at her words, her fingers reaching up to stroke the pulsating red stone and soothe the soul residing within, " Peace, sister." She whispered to Trey's older sister's spirit, " I won't get caught." As she asked about the exhibit, two of the hyena was sent away leaving with just one that she was introduced to as a friend. It didn't mean she was ready for him to suddenly rise up, his face in hers. Her heart started to thunder, her expression paling again before Rhysand's words reached her, a greeting. A measure. And suddenly the face didn't seem so threatening. Why would it, he wasn't the worst predator in her face. A brief moment of a skeletal face, black skin stretched tight, black drool pooling from razor-sharp teeth unbelievably large as the demon leaned in close to her, seeing her as a threat before it had finally recognized her as the love of his human side. No, compared to Trey, this was nothing. And so she relaxed, her gaze meeting that of the hyena before she hesitantly raised a hand and gently stroked the large beast's cheek, just as she'd done to Trey's demon face over a year ago. The hyena cackled, judging her before dropping back down, and Caelum refused to breathe a sigh of relief, instead of turning to the elf when he spoke what the hyena was saying. In an instant, her pen was flying across the paper writing it all down as quickly as she could, making small notes as she copied before his apology had her looking up from the paper. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and raised an eyebrow at his suggestion of slowing down the questions, and the brief smirk crossed her lips, an expression odd against everything the summer court was supposed to represent. But then again she no longer properly represented her court, or her counsel, did she? " Nowhere's the fun in slowing down, are you saying you can't keep up Mr. Drake?" Her voice was soft, a delicate purr as she arched an eyebrow at him, before her gaze returned to the paper, documenting thoughts for the varied hardness to the soil. Softer near the water, less grass so they could sunbathe in the warm sand even. " Alright, so definitely no stage, but bushes are okay." She repeated briefly, before adding another note and glancing down at the hyena and sitting down, flipping to another page and was motioning the creature over, sketching as she did so. Never had she been so grateful for the ABUNDANCE of art classes than this moment as she worked in a three-story high cliff with a variety of ledges to both climb and lounge on, long grasses that would shorten and disappear the closer it got to the river that would rush through the area before disappearing into a shallow pond that would be better for relaxing away from the heat on a hot day then providing water. Trees were sketched in, a handful dotting the landscape but leaving most of everything else open, scattering of bushes clumped around the bases providing both placed to hide during playtime, or to shade under during hot days. Turning the sketch towards Az, she tilted her head at the large beast, far less afraid now than before, " So, something like this, yes?" She asked the hyena directly. i hope you're ready for a fast ride cause that's what we're going for
"I can take care of myself." Rhys found himself laughing. "Oh, I can believe that. However I am also sure that there are things that are made easier with someone to lean on..." He winked, stepping away and watching her.
"Ah, I see, so perhaps it's in need of a solid deflating? Someone to ground you back to earth? Are all egotistical elves so against respecting personal boundaries. Keep your hands to yourself." Rhys chuckled, eyes flashing like they contained lightning. "Now... I could see the benefit of someone that would help me ground myself. Too many years of being told who I was expected to become and what I was entitled to. Perhaps having someone to tell me no is not a bad idea... Though personal boundaries are sometimes fun to push..." The last sentence was bit out through a feral grin that roved over her body. Not that he would do anything, but if she expected him to act like a dark elf... "Is that what you need? A dark elf rogue to push through your personal boundaries?" He whispered, stepping close enough that there was barely any gap between their skin.
"Wouldn't be too great of a loss if he were to be . . . removed, I'm sure." Still channeling his darker self, he grinned his feral grin. "If that would make you happy, just say the word..." His words were velvet as they surrounded the tiny fae.
"I should have worded it better, I apologize . . . I meant no disrespect. It's hard not to be unnerved in front of a powerful predator who could probably snap me in two with one might," Rhys listened to the grumbling cackle from Njeri and rolled his eyes. Vain creature. "The diva accepts your apology. She is glad that you are smart enough to acknowledge the power in the territory and will try harder to be more diplomatic in the future." The last bit was double edged, a solid barb and command toward the matriarch that responded with a huff. Turning to face Cael solidly, he laughed a softer laugh. "She is not always so crabby... More that she is unnecessarily protective of what is hers and is wary of strangers. And she is a ridiculous diva that needs to be treated as such." He explained, still working on smoothing tensions.
"It is of no concern to you . . . If it becomes an issue . . . . Well, if he becomes an issue, I'll deal with it myself, you might not have much of a director left when I'm done of course." Rhys smirked. "I have no doubts that you could. Perhaps muscle to hold him where you need him is all the assistance you need to take care of his ass." He laughed, offering himself as her hired hand should she need any help.
Rhys watched the interaction between Cael and Az and found himself smiling. She conquered her fear, using whatever means that would be work. He didnt pry, just leaned against a tree and let them connect. Once he was down, Az laid down next to her in a manner that told of his acceptance of the little fae into his pack. "It seems to me that you have made a friend. Az is the gentlest of the pack, usually picked on by the ladies. But he is a good ambassador for strangers to meet and get to know the species better. I was here when Kali and Azizi were born. Their mother was the matriarch before Njeri, though she died as a complication of whelping her final litter. I hand raised the pair, so I have a much stronger bond with them." He explained the pack dynamics a bit better, as well as the gentleness that was the male. The pack was tiny at this point, due to the fact that they had a virus run through and kill most of the elders. Those that survived were never quite right afterwards and ended up being euthanized. So the zoo was currently working on rebuilding the pack back up.
"Nowhere's the fun in slowing down, are you saying you can't keep up Mr. Drake?" Rhys chuckled. "Oh darling... I can keep up just fine. I was just saying that poor Az might be so enamored by your presence that he needs a few seconds between questions." His eyes stayed on her face as he flirted, and even Az let loose a cackle in response. How would this fae feel with two adoring males at her feet?
"Alright, so definitely no sage, but bushes are okay. So, something like this, yes?" Az looked at the image with calculating eyes. He was much smarter than most imagined and he was taking the time to really focus. Glancing at Rhys, he started to vocalize. "It looks nice, though he does request shallow areas in the river to make it easy to cross and at least one leafy tree by the pond for shade." Rhys answered, ruffling Az's fur as he sat beside the young male.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]As the elf laughed, Caelum turned to stare at him, a faint flicker of amusement on her features before it was wiped clean for that diplomatic indifference she was taught from a young age to use. " Oh, and are you suggesting I lean on you?" She mused softly, eyebrow raised, " I'm fairly certain that elf and fae relations aren't nearly that good." A faint flicker of anger flashed across her features remembering how she was expected to change that minuscule fact. Arranged marriage her ass. She was queen, she'd get it overthrown. Somehow. His next words however had her eyeing him again, seeing the way his eyes flashed, the feral grin that seemed to rake over her, and in that instant, she remembered she was dealing with a dark elf. Her features flushed as she forced herself not to react, to stand impassively. " I feel you'd need more than just one person to tell you no. Maybe a dark hole to be locked in?" She offered. And then he spoke again, his voice whispering, stepping so close they were almost touching. Her breath sucked in as she stared up at the tall male, trying not to show how unnerved the powerplay he just made was, " Dark elf rogues are hardly interesting . . ." She stated casually, Trey's demonic grin flashing in her mind's eye, " My last consort was a demon after all. I'm afraid you just . . . don't measure up." She stated back with a coy little smirk. The necklace hummed with an almost violent flash of red, heating up against her skin, and instantly Caelum backed up and away from the elf, aware of Tatiana's warning to not push what could be a dark creature in his own right. Trey's' sister never failed to warn her when things could potentially go south . . . and this male was clearly troubling in his own right, a birth-given right when you consider that dark elf ancestry. Still, his words were like velvet, surrounding her, wrapping her uptight in the act he was putting up, " Oh, are elves now concerning themselves with a fae's happiness?" She mused, touching one fingertip to his chest, and pushing him back, " I can assure you, I don't need any assistance in the situation. I fight my own battles, take out my own kidnappers . . ." She paused, almost thoughtful for a minute, " Okay, I had to have help with that one, but they had me in IRON." She amended after a moment, " But I certainly don't need some dark elf trying to save the world for me. God only knows how the royal courts would react to that." Okay, actually maybe that wouldn't be too bad of an idea. Let the dark elf cause some ruckus in her name, maybe that would get the arranged marriage called off. Thankfully the situation with the hyena could get the male elf called off, and she tilted her head as the hyena seemed to accept the apology, but she doubted the ability of any kind of good relationship between her and that particular female, even if she was described as a diva, " Can't say I blame her. I don't handle trespassers encroaching on my space either." She stated, her words directed more towards the elf who couldn't seem to stop talking or stepping up to her. He seemed willing to acknowledge her abilities to handle her own problems however, even if he offered assistance in being hired muscle. She stared him down for a moment, before her gaze boldly raked over his body, as if assessing, " Hmm, If I decide I need hired help, I might consider give you a shout . . . if I absolutely must. But see, I know a God who could probably do a better job in assisting." Might have a longer-lasting impact than doing it herself anyway. However, Caelum was relieved to have her attention return to a hyena, this one seeming less like a threat. In fact, if she admitted it, he was kinda cute. And as he sat down next to her, she couldn't help the slight smile or the way her hand began to stroke his fur. She glanced up again however as Rhys spoke of the history of the pack, and she listened with a curious expression before glancing back at the male hyena, her smile faintly amused, " Sounds like you and Kali had quite the large paws to grow into." She mused to the hyena, shaking her head, " Heaven knows I was compared to my mother constantly." She added as an afterthought, her voice soft as if sharing a secret to the hyena, before glancing back at the elf, " Well . . . you seem to have done a very good job with them . . ." She stated, her smile warmer this time before her gaze moved back to the hyena next to her, her voice dropping to just between her and the hyena, " Makes me wish my Father, Oberon, hadn't raised me with such a heavy hand," She paused before winking at the male hyena, " Of course, it does make rebelling much more fun. No one expects the fae queen to cause chaos after all," She whispered, her eyes flashing with mirth and darkness borrowed from her ex-boyfriend, and Syn both. Of course, the flirtation that seemed to be developing between the elf and fae had returned again when the dark one spoke of keeping up, but Az being enamored by her presence. She smirked in response, before wrapping her arms around the neck of the handsome hyena, " Oh, well then, can't have Az getting distracted then, can we?" She simpered sweetly, nuzzling her cheek against that of the hyena, a move she'd last done with Trey. As she showed the image to her new Hyena friend, she nodded at the corrections suggested, and immediately sketched those bits in, drawing in some shallow fords for crossing, and sketching in a large leafy tree, branches extending large enough in the image to easily shade enough room for five or six full-grown hyenas not just the three current, even as her gaze glanced up through her eyelashes at the elf as he sat down next to the hyena, " Any requests the keeper has for the area?" She asked after a moment, passing the notebook to Rhys, figuring his opinion might be necessary as well, before she leaned gently against the warm body of the hyena, gently petting the hyena, " I might just have to keep Az . . ." She stated after a moment, a slight lilting laugh leaving her as she cuddled the young male. i hope you're ready for a fast ride cause that's what we're going for
"Oh, and are you suggesting I lean on you? I'm fairly certain that elf and fae relations aren't nearly that good." Rhys chuckled darkly. "Oh... I am sure you could do more than just lean. Perhaps we could put a new spin on inter-species relations..." He winked, holding himself back from pulling her close. "Besides, rumor has it that the new Fae Queen is to wed the Elf Prince before too long..." Rhys smirked, though a nagging part of his mind reminded him that he was the prince that was promised to the queen. Too bad that Cael was not his queen... They could have fun ruling together.
"I feel you'd need more than just one person to tell you no. Maybe a dark hole to be locked in? Dark elf rogues are hardly interesting . . . My last consort was a demon after all. I'm afraid you just . . . don't measure up." Rhys paused at consort. Wasnt the Queen's last consort a demon? Wasnt that a big part of why her parents were willing to entertain the idea of the union? Not that Rhysand had any say in the matter. His father was heavy handed about those that were in his family, those that were 'his property'. It was one of the things that he loathed about the Elven King. "Sweetheart, you have to see and experience things before you can tell if they surpass expectations..." He let loose a dark laugh as he gazed at her once again.
"Oh, are elves now concerning themselves with a fae's happiness? I can assure you, I don't need any assistance in the situation. I fight my own battles, take out my own kidnappers . . . Okay, I had to have help with that one, but they had me in IRON. But I certainly don't need some dark elf trying to save the world for me. God only knows how the royal courts would react to that." Oh if she only knew... "Last time I checked, a dark elf is the Prince and is the one that will be making sure that his Queen is happy..." He would NOT tell her, though he wasnt actively hiding it either.
"Can't say I blame her. I don't handle trespassers encroaching on my space either. Hmm, If I decide I need hired help, I might consider give you a shout . . . if I absolutely must. But see, I know a God who could probably do a better job in assisting." Rhys laughed at her words. "Gods, demons, is there a race that you dont know? And how intimately do you know this god... Is he begging at your beautiful feet as well?" The dark prince teased as he stretched his arms above his head and gave her a glimpse of his chiseled abdomen.
"Sounds like you and Kali had quite the large paws to grow into. Heaven knows I was compared to my mother constantly." Az huffed and dropped his solid head on her lap. With a soft noise and glance at Rhys, he huffed. "Az and Kali dont remember their mother. They have been told of her, but that is the extent of their knowledge." Rhys explained the soft noises, resting against a tree as he played translator and listened to the information coming from the young male.
"Well . . . you seem to have done a very good job with them . . ." Rhys nearly blushed at the compliment, having a feeling that it was a rare thing from the fae before him. "Thank you. There were a few times that I took the pair home with me... and got in a bit of trouble for it." He chuckled as he heard Kali ask to come back. He silently agreed that the females could join, if they played nice. Before he could let Cael know, the girls were racing back. Upon reaching their keeper, they laid in the shade with him and watched the interactions. "Njeri asked me to apologize for her earlier attitude." He explained as they dropped their heads to his leg.
"Makes me wish my Father, Oberon, hadn't raised me with such a heavy hand, Of course, it does make rebelling much more fun. No one expects the fae queen to cause chaos after all," Az growled softly at her words, before shaking his head in an almost human-like disgust. A huffing chuckle escaped his maw and he glanced back at Rhys. "Az thinks that rebelling is not so much chaos as asserting your beliefs in your position..." Rhysand said softly, admiring the young queen more and more as he learned about her.
"Oh, well then, can't have Az getting distracted then, can we?" Rhys chuckled and shook his head as the hyena curled closer to her. Speaking silently to the hyena, he wryly let Az know that would be his place before long. The hyena lifted his head and stared straight at Rhys. With a snarky cackle that even Caelum would hear for the sass that it was, he set his head on her shoulder and nuzzled her cheek. "Oh you traitor..." Rhys grumbled in exasperation as he rolled his eyes and laughed.
"Any requests the keeper has for the area?" Rhys grinned as he took the image. Holding it so that the girls could see it as well, he nodded. It looked amazing. Absolutely amazing... "You are quite the artist. The girls and I approve completely." He smiled as he handed the image back.
"I might just have to keep Az . . ." Rhys raised an eyebrow as the male nearly turned himself inside out to get closer to the little fae. "Somehow I dont think he would mind..." He remarked, wondering how in the world he could manage to actually keep the trio when he was done with school.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]The fae glanced towards the elf when he spoke again, his dark chuckle, raising an eyebrow at his suggestion. " New spin on inter-species relations, hmm? I hardly imagine it'd be a new thing." She mused, well aware she was the prime (if unknown) example of that particular mash-up. " I don't know though. I'm sure I could find a better elf to . . . lean on if it came to it." Her tone playful, and low. At the next words, however, she pulled away slightly, making a face at his unintentional reminder of the future for her, " Don't count the doves before they hatch . . . Rumor has it the Queen and her mother intend to find a way to fight it . . . not that I can blame her. Who likes having a bunch of old geezers plans your future for you just because she did something they didn't approve of. Though, from what I hear of the new queen, she's always had fun pushing their buttons." Oh heavens, some of the things she'd done just to twist their beards . . . it's a miracle they ever gave her the crown. Of course, Tremaine had been her biggest headache according to the council, which is probably why they were eager for the arranged marriage that would likely be the end of her own freedom. She'd heard the stories of the Elf King who saw people as possessions . . . she was the mirror of her mother, would her future husband be the mirror of his father? This elf . . . this elf was something else, however, as his words seemed to send her heart stuttering a second, " Oh, you think I should see and experience these things with you?" She mused softly, looking up at him from hooded eyes as she drew up , casually closing the distance between them until they were touching this time, her fingertips trailing down his cheek, " You think you'd be that impressive do, surpass expectations?" Her lips twisted into a smirk, patting his cheek as stood up onto her tiptoes, her final words whispered against the pulse point at the base of his neck, " Unfortunately . . . I'm not interested in judging your abilities." Or rather, unfortunately, she was promised to another . . . If she was being honest she should have left this enclosure a while ago, when the flirting first started. She should have shut the elf down from the get-go, not keep feeding into it. His next words had her pausing, the Prince was a dark-elf? She glanced up at the male, pausing, wondering, before writing it off. Surely not. What would an Elf Prince be doing in this world anyone - from what she knew of the current Elf King, he kept his family close. She shouldn't start wishing just because this male was the first to catch her attention after Trey all those months ago. She needed to put a stop to this. She needed to bring it back to safe levels, " It will be interesting, I'm sure, to see how that union pans out . . . I fear our Queen might not be the easiest to keep happy . . . particularly if the Prince is anything like his father. Our Queen doesn't follow directions well . . ." She said casually, even as she made a face at the thought. " And Our Queen is still recovering from everything that has happened to her lately anyway. It's not been an easy year for her . . . . They should have more consideration then shoving an arranged marriage on her too." She was grateful when the topic did change, to a safer point of view, to the races she knew, and she grinned brightly, " It'd be easier to state the races I don't know. Demons, Gods, Shape-shifter and Angels. Met a few Vampires too. Tried solving a murder with a witch. I'm fairly close with the new Dragon Queen too. Kaotanya is a sweetheart. Thankfully the god isn't begging at my feet . . . I'd hate to have to kick him while he's done, the silly beast." She paused, thoughtful before amending, " Well, rather, he doesn't beg seriously. I'm pretty sure he's joking most of the time he's flirting." She added. The weight of Az in her lap had her looking down and practically cuddling the large head as the elf continued to play translator, as she glanced at him to compliment him, a faint smile touching her features at his words, " I can't imagine taking them anywhere would be met with too much delight. I once snuck a goat into my brother's room when we were little. I was in soooo much trouble when it ate his sheets, I thought Father would have a stroke. Mother said I should have put three in his room." She didn't get to say anything more before suddenly the other two were back, laying down near the male, and she blinked as she cuddled Az's neck when Njeri's words were translated. Caelum's features shifted to a smile as she touching a hand to her wings, collecting a touch of fairy dust, and blowing it towards the two females, as the grass beneath them shifted to the grass more befitting hyenas and their preferred comfort levels, " No apology needed, a mere understanding." She winked at the matriarch, " You should see some of the scenes I cause over misunderstandings. I once pushed an angel off of a balcony." Not that Shin got hurt mind you. Her attention turned back towards Az, and she tilted her head at the disgusted sound, " Oh don't make a fuss, Az, my father's silly, but I remind him constantly that I'm my mother's child, and so he can't stay mad at me." Of course at Rhys's words she stiffened briefly, remembering the translating going on, and wondering how much has been passed, even as she cuddled back against the hyena, " Perhaps . . . but there's a great fun in causing trouble too. Naturally Syn and I greatly enjoyed the trouble we caused . . regularly. I'm half convinced I was originally enrolled in Cry Wolf High to get away from her bad influence. It did not help - at all." She sat back up, petting the hyena as he curled closer to her, before the hyena looked up and stared at the elf before cackling and laying his head on her shoulder, nuzzling her cheek. At Rhys's words, even Cael had to giggle slightly, stroking Az's snout and nuzzling her cheek against the Hyenas, " I don't know, Rhysand, I think your hyena has a better chance of exceeding expectations then you do." She called softly, hugging the Hyena close, meeting the elf's gaze from over the hyena's head. When he and the girls did look over the image, her features flushed faintly at his compliment, dropping her gaze slightly as her hair fell around her, black peeking through the ivory again, " Thank you . . . I took enough art classes in high school it's a miracle they didn't just make me a teacher's assistant. My friends knew if I couldn't be found in my dorm, check the art room next, and if that failed, I was in the rafters of the North Wing of school. It was easier to sneak around that Wing when you move from rafter to rafter, after all." She took the image back, giggling at the hyena's reaction to her words, glancing up at Rhys and smiling, " Well, if he's ever missing from the enclosure - I didn't do it." She glanced back to the image, starting to write down general quotes and frowning as the river bumped the price and wrinkled her nose, " Hmm, most of this is doable, but I'll have to talk to the director about the river. It'll put us over budget . . . it shouldn't be an issue . . . but he's a bit of . . . an ogre." And if he even made one comment of her doing something for him for the increase in budget, she'd have to call Syn in. Her gaze drifted over the hyenas, or maybe have them deal with it. I wonder if I could sneak them to the Director's Office without their keeper noticing. It'd be worth it.[attr="class","bhsnotess"] [attr="class","bhsimg"] [attr="class","bhsnotes"] Tag @rhysandadamdrake [break] Words 1517 w/coding [break] Notes -cackles softly- [break] Outfit Clickie!

"She's always had fun pushing their buttons." Rhys laughed as he nodded in agreement. "Those old 'advisors' seem to think that they are the ones in charge of ruling far past their time. Heaven knows that the Prince has no intention of allowing them to dictate to him. Last I checked, he has a bit of a hot tempter and has blown up on a few of the advisors, as well as the King." He laughed, eyes clouding as he remembered the incident in the throne room. It was one of the times that the court had tried to make the prince settle down and be more of what they expected. Rhys was prone to partying and street racing, dangerous activities for a royal in the public eye. "That being said, I would definitely not say no to a bit of inter-species. From what I hear, it is usually fun for both parties." He winked. "I'm not interested in judging your abilities." Rhys chuckled darkly, his arms snaking around her slight form and pulling her close enough to press against him. His head dipped to her shoulder and he ran his jaw along it. Releasing her, he smirked. "Oh Caelum... Dont try to judge what you havent experienced..." He crooned, his voice a husky rumble in the open exhibit. "They should have more consideration then shoving an arranged marriage on her too." Rhys raised an eyebrow as he looked at the tiny fae Queen. "Trust me... The prince is nothing like his father. To an almost violent hatred of who his father is. His beautiful betrothed queen is not his property and he would never treat her as such. And the Prince is not likely to know what the Queen went through, the damn advisors like to hide anything that could make him angry and prone to trying to change things." It would be so easy for Caelum to read through his words to the truth behind. His eyes were sparkling with pure fury at the idea of what she must have went through and he felt a stab of remorse at his tactile flirting. "I sincerely apologize if I made you uncomfortable. That was never my intention. I beg your forgiveness." He murmured, his words the definition of proper and court based. "I'm pretty sure he's joking most of the time he's flirting." Rhys had to shove down the glower that tried to spike at the idea of a God flirting with Caelum. He had no right to deny her what she had in her life, and he would resent her if she tried to dictate to him what he could and couldnt do. Not that he had flirted with any female before Cael since their betrothal had been decided. He would never hurt her intentionally, regardless of her desire to not be with him. It took the elf prince a moment to compose himself before he could nod. "So you are extremely well connected in the world. Most of the prince's connections tend to be more of a not courtly connection." He laughed at the last one, remembering the parties and chaos that he had been privy to when he was younger. "Mother said I should have put three in his room." Rhys snorted. "I hate to say it, but probably not... Definitely a solid way to keep yourself from being bothered though. Particularly if Njeri comes along. She has a tendency to snarl and growl at anyone that she doesnt deem good enough for her pack. I am not looking forward to introducing new members to the pack."[/b] He remarked, eyes glancing at the female in question. Njeri huffed and glared at him, informing him on no uncertain terms that new members were not what she wanted. "I can imagine your brother's irritation with having an invader in his room... and the poor staff that had to clean it up." He laughed, eyes alight. "No apology needed." Njeri snorted with amusement and tilted her head. Getting to her feet, she ambled her way over to the fae and stared at her for a moment. Rhys bit his lip to avoid letting her know that it was another challenge, wanting to see what Cael would do. Not that Njeri would harm her. Rhys found himself of the mind that if the matriarch tried anything, she would not live to complete the attack. He did nod his head to let her know that she didnt need to be afraid of her, but the prince was not sure that she saw the gesture. He didnt want to step in, a part of him desperately wanting her to be accepted by the pack completely since this was his happiest place. "He can't stay mad at me." Az huffed a laughing cackle and licked her cheek. "Perhaps it is just how beautiful and charismatic you are..." Rhys murmured, gaining a flicked ear from Az as he stepped in with the compliment. "It did not help - at all." Rhys raised an eyebrow at the mention of the dark fae. He had run in similar circles as Syn for a while and they had gotten along well enough. Not that he was going to mention that until he knew what Syn had told Cael about that time. He could understand why King Oberon would want to pull his heir from that imp's side though. Syn was a very interesting little fae. "Now why on earth did he not expect you two to get around that decision?" Rhys laughed, imagining the chaos that the pair could cause. "I don't know, Rhysand, I think your hyena has a better chance of exceeding expectations then you do." Rhys paused, jaw dropped. His piercing gaze went straight to Azizi and he silently told him exactly what the dark prince was thinking. The hyena snorted and cuddled closer to the female. "Dont make me tell her of your indiscretions, Azizi. You have pups nearly ready to be born... How does that appeal to a female that you are making puppy eyes to?" He smirked, not at all serious about the fact that Az's pups being enough to drive away the fae queen. If anything, it might make him more adorable to her.
"but he's a bit of . . . an ogre." Rhys snorted at the image of her sneaking around in the rafters at school, then listened to her speak of being over budget. If the director decides to be an ass, Rhys would gladly fix that problem. Not that Cael needed his help by any means. All three hyenas gazed at him and nodded in agreement. Heck, at this point, she could probably take the pack to back her up without his assistance... not that the thought made him feel any better on a few different levels. "An ogre description is doing a disservice to the ogres themselves... He is so much worse." Rhys growled softly.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]There was something she was missing - her magic tingled with that knowledge, a faint shimmer of illusion as it rippled across her features, acknowledging something wasn't right and instinctively strengthening itself as if to protect to dainty queen. A casual display of power, if there was ever one - but would the elf recognize his own kinds' magic mixing and strengthening the fae magic that helped bind the illusion to her skin? He had no idea just what inter-species could look like. He had no idea what it could mean. Still, something . . . was off about this conversation, Could he really be saying what I think he's saying. Could this casual conversation really be the first contact between future spouses? Surely not. I must be reading wrong, it must just be my imagination, wishful thinking of what it might be like to be married to a Prince with a personality like Rhysand's. Not . . . who I fear I'm engaged to. It's just foolish wishful thinking. That had to be it. She was just being foolish, it wasn't real . . . It wasn't. So instead she turned her attention back to their conversation, trying not to read too much into his words, though she tilted her head quizzically when the elf commented on advisors ruling far past their time, and a light, twittering giggle left her before she could help herself, her eyes sparkling with mirth and memories of all the pesky fairy tricks she'd played on those very advisors when she'd pushed her too far growing up. It was the information about the mysterious prince she was most interested in, the comment of the prince having no intentions to be dictated. Immediately she wondered if that meant she and the Prince could get the plans canceled, assist each other in breaking the marriage contract - there had to be better ways to smooth the situation, remove the wars that have waged between their people for so long. Her mother was evidence of how pasts could be left in the past. The idea of being forced to marry someone with a hot temper however had her frowning, knowing she could be as stubborn as they come, likely not a combination - though blowing up at the King seemed like not too bad a thing. She'd have to meet him properly before she passed too much judgment. She needed to see this prince . . . maybe then she'd give up hoping that she was talking to him face to face right now. The queen blushed this time, the faint pink twinkling as it forced a shade of the hue past the illusions covering her skin and hiding her elven traits, the color much lighter than it would have been had the illusion not been in place. " Hmm, the problem is finding yourself a pure-blooded fae to say yes to a bit of inter-species . . . relations. Too bad you won't find one here." She teased. Well, at least the pure-blooded part . . . a bit of wearing her down and she wouldn't mind falling into the tall, dark and handsome set of arms in front of her. They were definitely playing a very dangerous game, as his arms suddenly snaked around her, tugging her close, their bodies pressed. A startled gasp left her mouth, a soft, " Oh!" leaving her as her hands settled on his chest to balance herself, her wings instinctively flaring out to catch herself from the sudden movement. However, the moment his jaw skimmed along her shoulder, the heat searing through the leather jacket pulled around her, she seemed to freeze, even as her wings dropped, draping over his arms delicately in surprise. His hands full from her waist, and her gaze lifted to his - though neither stepped back. Don't judge what she hasn't experienced - sounded almost like a dare, and the husky timber to his tone had a shiver racing down her spine, even as her hands finally fell away from his chest, her finger tips gliding down his sides as she forced herself to step back, before she did something unstately, " You . . . are entirely to tempting for your own good." Her voice was soft, almost breathless between them, as she tore her gaze away, wrapping her arms around her waist, hiding her hands at the elbow to obscure the fact she was holding herself to keep from leaping back at the sinful temptation before her. Holy hell, he was gorgeous. He was tempting. He was . . . . something she should be so very, very careful with. Least she forgets her place, forgets herself. Could someone please throw a bag over his head!? I'm dying here! When the elf spoke of the prince, her head shot up in surprise at the knowledge he was nothing like the Elven King. A violent hatred. The blush stole across her features again when he spoke that his 'beautiful betrothed queen' wouldn't be treated as property, and his knowledge of what the Queen had gone through wouldn't be given to him. Her breath seemed to stutter faintly as she stared the male down for a moment. It couldn't be true, he . . . he couldn't be who she was . . . His words suddenly came again and she took a step back at his apology if he'd made her uncomfortable. His words were familiar, the last time she'd heard that particular form of speech had been in a courtroom. This time her step back was cautious, her expression suddenly shifting, closing off as she stared him down with uncertainty. This couldn't really be . . . was he really . . . " You shouldn't apologize, for what you were unaware of." She said quietly, another couple of steps being put between them, but her features had shifted again, her wings fluttering nervously, her mask in place, but her eyes remained expressive, praying for her to be wrong . . . praying she was right, " You know . . . . perhaps you should have introduced yourself properly." She finally said, as her eyes narrowed, dots being made, and that name from that letter suddenly emblazoned in her memory. She should have realized it before - she would have, had she not been so focused on hiding from the truth. " I had no intentions to ever meet you in person . . ." She said softly, almost thoughtfully, " Had fully intended to have the . . . situation resolved before that could happen." She tilted her head slightly, the blonde strands pooling down her side, the illusion keeping them shades darker than the near-white they naturally were. " Tell me, Rhysand, or should I refer to you by title? Did you have any intention of telling me who you really were? Or was this just some prank to play when you heard my name." Everyone in New Orleans knew who she was, everyone knew the Fae Queen was the previously graduated senior, there was no way he couldn't have figured it out within mere moments. What bothered her the most now was all the playfulness, the joking, the flirting, the way he kept grabbing her, teasing her. Was it just some foolish game, some joke on the unsuspecting fae who hadn't been part of the courts beyond her crowning for the past few years while she completed school and dealt with the fall out of everything that had happened. Her wings snapped out with a soft spray of fairy dust, the iridescent sparkle glittering in the sunlight. " I think perhaps I should leave . . . . I've discussed what I need to regarding this enclosure." Instantly she'd switched again, formal and business-like, not the fae she'd been before now that she'd been stumped by this revelation and struggling to figure out how this all made her feel. Even after he'd convinced her, dared her, played her into staying, it took some extra time for her to warm back up to the conversation. Her posture remained stiff, her expression more neutral - giving herself time to fully recollect herself, all while trying hard to judge what he was saying more properly, if the flirtation was real, if . . . this wasn't really a joke. Some prank to be played. Still his acknowledgment of her being extremely well connected had her smiling faintly, the first glimmer of true emotion since she'd connected the pieces of just who he was. " I've spent many, many years among the supernatural, and the unique children sent to Cry Wolf High . . . it's allowed me a broad amount of friends to make, some with their own unique connections . . . others who would rank high on anyone's scale of importance." Angels, shape-shifters, witches and sirens, werewolves and dragons - there was no limit to just who all she knew. Who all she was willing to make friends with. " Of course, not all of them my parents ever approved of." She mused softly, " Father rather liked to keep me on a leash . . . but I'm my mother's daughter." And her elven blood sang for her to wander and explore, to not be kept down. It begged her to just go. Caelum had her best angelic face masked on at her casual comment of her mother's suggestion of throwing in additional creatures, though she tilted her head when he spoke of his hyenas, of Njeri's tendency to snarl and growl at those not good enough. " Yes, I imaging introducing anyone to her can be fairly touch-and-go." When he commented about staff having to clean up his room, her grin was wicked this time, " I told mother why I put the goat into his room, and mother was so cross with him, he was forced to deep clean the entire chambers. None of the staff were allowed to help. I don't know what he was more angry about - my retaliation, or his punishment. Of course, I was in a fair bit of trouble too, but father thought the best punishment for me at the time was to keep me confined to my chambers. I lasted a day before managed to get the bars off my tower windows and flew out. I'm pretty sure father has hair whiter than mine because of what all I did as a child. My cousin was such a terrible influence." That and the staff hadn't learned to avoid giving her sugar yet either. The sudden attention from Njeri was startling, but not unexpected. And just as Az had stared her down earlier, Caelum met the matriach's gaze with soft confidence, her expression neutral, almost friendly, but unwilling to waver. She'd stared down demons. She'd flown with dragons, and she held elven pride just as she harnessed a fae's charm. She'd won over Az, sure, but . . . she felt Njeri was another type all together. But Caelum was no weak female of the courts, draped in finery and hidden behind palace walls. She ran the forests with practiced ease, she dueled with powerful magic that brought the earth to her heed. Her illusions could hide even her own identity, and she wouldn't submit to the female . . . She didn't submit to Trey's demon, so a hyena would have no hold over her fear now that she'd remembered that. When the elf suddenly murmured a compliment, Caelum turned her attention back his way, and in that moment Cael's eyes seemed to light up, surprised but delighted by his words, even as she snuggled into Az's side, playfully cuddling with the hyena she'd decided was her new best friend ( Sorry, Syn!). " Hmm, I think it had more to do with the fact that I could con my way out of most of the trouble I'd get in. I had a silver tongue growing up, father blamed it on Syn and my mother, honestly. Not that I can blame him. If I was being a naughty little fairy, it was Syn's fault, with her dark fae tendencies. And if I wasn't being very fae-minded at all, it was my mother's fault entirely. I think she was quite proud of me in those moments." Not that he needed to know the reason it was her mother's fault was because she and Rhys shared more than just a betrothal, the shared a species connection too - even if she hid it with illusions. " Father would probably have been more eager to forgive me if I used charm and charisma to get out of trouble." Of course when the Prince asked why the King had assumed the two wouldn't try to get around that decision, Caelum's smile turned purely dark, a smile of trouble and chaos, " Ah, you see, that's the fun part. Father likes to see me as some summer fae, he forgets that I'm just as troublesome and tricky as the next fae, and I rather enjoy causing trouble for Father. Syn didn't cause my rather . . . wild tendencies, she just helped cultivate them rather than allow them to remain wild and uncoordinated." Of course, when she commented of the hyena beating expectations, the manner in which his jaw dropped dissolved her into giggles, her smile innocent as he seemed to stare Azizi down even as the hyena cuddled up closer to her. At the idea that there'd be little hyena puppies however, Caelum was practically desperate for more information, gracefully stepping away from Az, and dropping down to the grass in a graceful move fit more for a ballroom dance than casual conversation, even as her hands grasped Rhys's, " Puppies? There's gonna be Hyena puppies? You must tell me when that happens! Oh I bet they'll be so cute, and soft and cuddly. Promise me I can see them, please Rhys, pretty please?" Oh yes, the idea of hyena puppies was more than tolerable to the female, but at least the words had pulled her from Azizi's side and closer to Rhys's, even if she was soon returning to the warm, soft fluffy body and laying back against the hyena, as the subject changed to the director. Honestly the director did bother her greatly, more than she cared to admit to the male at this time. He'd practically thrown himself at the Queen, and she knew that the moment she approached him about the river, those leud comments would return with a vengeance, and she wouldn't dream of laying a hand on the man, let alone laying with him. Rhys growl did allow her a sense of relief that even if things did go south in that situation, she'd likely have his assistance with any form of clean up should she need it. But Caelum was a resilient little fae, and was fairly certain she could handle the director herself, and if she didn't . . . she'd have some hyena sized back up for that conversation as well. " Yes, well either way . . . if he is foolish enough to proposition me again, I shall remove body parts." Her expression was hard, her head held high at her determined voice, even if the word choice was less accurate to just what the male had seemed to suggest. One way or another, she would be handling the director, and he wouldn't disgust anyone else again. Less of all, her. "You . . . are entirely to tempting for your own good." Rhys raised one dark eyebrow and stared at her. It seemed that she was leaving things unsaid, but he was not sure that he was understanding what. "Perhaps being tempting is not a bad thing..." He murmured softly, eyes molten and hands itching to pull her back to him. Rather than acting on said desire, he paid closer attention. It seemed like she was struggling with something, like she was hiding behind a complete glamour. Hmmm... What would that mean? Did she look different than he expected? Was she someone else entirely? Was there traits she didnt like? As he mused, he saw the understanding dawn on her.
"perhaps you should have introduced yourself properly." Rhys felt his defenses slam up. "Why should I bring the court into the one place where I can just be me? I got this job on my own merits, as simply Rhysand Drake. Not as the Prince, not with the King's approval. Mine. This job is the one place where I do not have to be the Prince of a scheming court. The Prince that is betrothed to a Fae Queen that so clearly loathes the idea of being anywhere near me. If I had said anything, you would have left and never even bothered to speak to me." He stated bluntly, careful to keep the pain and frustration from his voice. Yes, he probably should have told her... Heck, he had wanted to tell her. But he knew that being royal and introducing yourself as such was a death sentence to an actual connection. "I also knew that if I introduced myself as 'Prince Rhysand', you would have acted very differently. You would not have let down your guard at all. That being said, you never said you were the Queen either... Just because you think everyone knows who you are... Lets just say, I have never met you before, nor had any expectations that I would run into you here. And in regards to the apology, I made you uneasy. It was my place to apologize for that. I should have never put you in a position that would have made you uncomfortable. And I am sorry..." He finished, eyes dropping as the pain nearly swamped him. This was the woman that he was betrothed to... a woman that he had been finding himself drawn to... And now she wanted nothing to do with him simply because of who he was. Yet again, he cursed his birth and the fact that he was royal... Being prince seemed to always ruin everything he wanted. If she broke his royal status to the director, the chances of him staying with his beloved hyenas was slim. Asshole liked to ruin things.
"I had no intentions to ever meet you in person . . ." Another surge of pain made him hold his gaze down... "I see. You decided on merit of what I am rather than who I am that I am not worthy of your time, or even a chance. I wanted to tell you. But I had a feeling that it would ruin things. When I realized who you were, we were actually talking and not at each other's throats. Do you really think I wanted to ruin that in the obviously brief moment that we could be ourselves?" He asked, steeling himself and raising his chin. His once molten eyes were flat and held immense pain. How was it that a day could go from amazing and fun to pure torture in a span of moments.
"I think perhaps I should leave . . ." Rhys let loose a self depreciating laugh. "Exactly. You are too set in your own thoughts to give me a chance to be just me. You are afraid that you might actually like me and not loathe the fact that our courts want to see us together. For a fae that is rumored to have a spine of steel, you are awfully quick to back down from a challenge..." His voice was deep, a similar husky tone to earlier, though with a different reason. Pain... pain was the reason. "So very typical... Judged for my damn father rather than myself..." He whispered, feeling Az's head under his hand as the young male looked up at him with worry.
"but I'm my mother's daughter." Rhys listened to her, eyes wary as she spoke further after saying she was leaving. "I suppose moving here might work in my favor in terms of connections of my own for the future... I was tutored at home until about 6 months ago. My father sent me here to major in political sciences for better chances of ruling successfully later." He explained, wanting to let her know why he said that he didnt know immediately who she was. "Knowing my parents, I would rather be my mother's child than my father's..." He mused, thinking of the differences between the pair.
"Yes, I imaging introducing anyone to her can be fairly touch-and-go." Rhys snorted as he watched the pair get a measure of each other. In the end, Nje snorted, nipped Cael's jaw gently, and laid down. "I think she approves of you... That little love nip is her way of saying she is the boss, but she likes you." He laughed softly, glad that Nje had settled down. "Her introduction to me was much more gnarly... and she wasnt even the matriarch yet at that point..." He shuddered in remembrance of the initial meetings... Rhys had come away bloody a few times before Nje accepted him.
"My cousin was such a terrible influence." Rhys snorted. "Sounds to me like she is fun... Heavens know that having a fun cousin is so much better than being the lone prince in a castle full of old, arrogant advisors." Rhys laughed, knowing that he was speaking from experience. As he laughed, he felt a surge of pain threatening again. This woman he could easily fall in love with... Too bad she did now want that possible future.
"Father would probably have been more eager to forgive me if I used charm and charisma to get out of trouble." That was it... Rhys felt the terrible need to tell her how he felt... "Your charm and charisma would definitely have swayed him. It is probably what makes people like you. Though your spunk and personality draw people to love you." People like him. He managed to keep that last thought from his lips, figuring that she had already made up her mind about him and would just rebuff him harder if he tried to change it.
"she just helped cultivate them rather than allow them to remain wild and uncoordinated." The prince smiled. "Sometimes being wild and spunky are more fun. If you have tendencies anything like the little fae that I partied with when I was younger, you could be a blast to be around. Not that I havent enjoyed this afternoon. I have smiled and laughed more today than in months." Or at least he had until the fiasco about who he was. He couldnt let the thoughts excape, dwelling on the fact that his royal status had ruined yet another thing that he wanted desperately.
"Promise me I can see them, please Rhys, pretty please?" Rhys smiled and nodded. "I believe it should be any day... She is in quarantine until the birth, since hyena births are... gruesome and dangerous. Once pups are born, we will work on introducing her to the pack. My only hope is that Nje accepts her and the pups.. She is hard to judge." He answered, glancing at the calendar on his phone that was marked with the end of gestation for the little female. He was looking so forward to seeing Az's pups. "Even if you want to see them without me there, I will let you know the moment they are born. It will be a pair of them, at least according to the ultrasound that we did the other day." He explained, swallowing his own emotions to do his best to keep her smiling.
"Yes, well either way . . . if he is foolish enough to proposition me again, I shall remove body parts." Az lifted his head and let loose a cackle that would chill the spines of anyone that he wasnt close to. There was something about it that was sinister and bloodthirsty. "Sounds to me like Az likes that plan... And would probably be more than happy to join in..." He frowned at the male, seeing the agreement in his entire body.

[attr="class","bhs"] [attr="class","bhsquot1"]Blue Canary in the [attr="class","bhsquot2"]Outlet by the Lightswitch , [attr="class","bhstext"]Caelum met Rhys's eyes with out hesitation, as he stared back to her, though his molten gaze was hard to hold. His soft murmur was almost her undoing, far more effective than the husky voice he'd used earlier as she raised her fingers to her mouth, trying to hide the blush, " Perhaps not . . ." She stated softly, her smile slightly hidden behind her fingers, her eyes sparkling softly as she looked up at him . . . only for the connection to be made like a sudden slap to her face, a sudden alarm of what was going on, who this really was, and in that moment she felt the need to escape, a safe place to think out what was going on, what all she was feeling, what all she had thought during this conversation. A part of her was thrilled to realize this was her betrothed . . . that this incredible male was who was planned for her ever after . . but another part was still scared, so terrified by what that might mean now. Of what this might mean for her future. She hadn't planned to go through with the marriage, it was too soon. But, as she had raised her own defenses, so did he, and in that brief moment, she regretted the change on his face. His words had her shifting her gaze away, alarmed at his quick defense, but she couldn't help but understand, wasn't that what she'd done with her beloved gardens. It was her safe place where no one needed to worry about who she was. She'd become manager on her own merits, just as he had. The bluntness was such a change from the playfulness earlier, and in that instant she wanted to go back, back to before she knew who he was, when she was just wistfully imagining he'd be introduced to her as the Prince in the courts, where they could laugh over their initial oblivious meetings . . . where she could be safe in the knowledge that he wasn't really the Prince, and this emotion she felt would just stay a playful antic between them . . . now, he had become real, and it had become awkward, and blunt, and dare she even say angered. He'd been correct on his temper. She didn't look at him, instead letting him talk, flinching occasionally at his words, his own assumptions. Her arms wrapped around herself, and slowly those bright, vibrantly colored wings slowly began to lower and still, until they were flat against her back, limb and quiet. The breeze shifting her long hair, the only movement from her as she quietly listened to him speak. He was right on most of it of course. She hadn't said who she was, and had he introduced himself properly, the entire conversation would have been different. But his apology was still unwarranted, unwanted. Because that unease had helped her retaliate, and in that open up faster with him, the banter being exposed, and it was in those moments early that she'd been happiest for the first time in a long time. So she continued to remain silent, as he continued to speak again, flinching visibly at his quiet I see. She couldn't explain the situation, her mouth refused to open. To say she hadn't wanted to meet him, to be forced to accept the truth when she was still getting over Tremaine, when she was scared she'd meet him and it'd feel like a betrayal to the memory of their time together. To be forced to just marry another when every other time before had ended so horribly. He couldn't understand what she was thinking of, instead making his own assumptions. She hadn't decided who he was. If anything, she'd put others in charge of finding out who he was. Syn was digging. Regal was checking his contacts, she'd asked around with the people she knew . . . She hadn't written him off, she was just afraid, was that really so bad, so wrong? With everything she'd gone through in the last few years, was it so bad that she'd been hesitant? But she didn't defend herself, what could she say? So he spoke again, of wanting to tell her, of assuming it would ruin things. She couldn't look at him though, afraid to see what he looked like now, to see what his voice was betraying. Do you really think I wanted to ruin that in the obviously brief moment that we could be ourselves? No, she couldn't fault him for that. How could she when she was already cherishing those moments herself. Why did she have to say something. His laugh was worse though, the sound so harsh against his earlier pure joy. However his words were starting to be too much, tears pooling in the corner of her eyes as her fingers clenched slightly. Set in her own thoughts. Quick to back down from a challenge. Her eyes snapped up, angry even as the tears slid down her cheeks, but her words were accompanied by a violent flash of light escaping her in a display of angry power - her elven abilities had always been harder to contain when angry. The illusions still held, her glamour, but the bright light was violent and aggressive, angry, " You're so stupid!" Her words were shouted, the angry tears falling as she shook her head, " You think I'm just judging you? Was I terrified, yes, but I'm no idiot. I've been asking everyone about who you were for weeks now! I don't just assume about anyone! I wasn't avoiding you because I had decided on who you were, it was because I was terrified of what would happen! I didn't want any of it to be real! I didn't want the council deciding all of this for me so soon as Tremaine, after everything that happened! It was too much, too soon! And everyone I ever got close to romantically, has died or disappeared completely! What if it happened to you too! You don't really know a thing about me! You don't know who I am beyond what you might have been told and what you're assuming about me now! Am I angry, yes, unbelievably so. But beyond it all, I didn't want to really believe you would be him! Because I was enjoying today, because I was comfortable flirting with someone for the first time since Tremaine's disappearance, but I didn't need to worry about it going further. Because you would just be some other individual! And then you ended up being him! The very person I was trying to break the betrothal of!" She tilted her head, her eyes flashing still, " I've been trying to get this entire miss canceled, and then here you come, real and alive and fun and it suddenly didn't seem necessary! And that scared the hell out of me! Because you're real now, and not just some name on a paper, and we get along!" Her hands wiped at the tears, and for a moment that glamour faltered with her emotions, an almost brief flash of something beneath it before it was reinforced in her need to protect herself. A flash to know she didn't look the way she was supposed to, that she was hiding something, but not what. " It's stupid anyways, forcing people into political marriages! What's the point? Why does marriage always have to be the way to unite groups of people? Why would they force it on us, when we're both so hard headed we'd fight it anyways?" She stormed towards him, and this time her fist collided with her chest, a slight flash of that light manipulation visible as she did so, even as she seemed to glow faintly, the glamour obscuring most of it, " None of it fair! I wasn't supposed to get along with you, to like you at all. We're supposed to be enemies anyways. I was supposed to hate you, not want to be friends!" Her angry gaze met his, her eyes flashing with the flaring power as her other fist hit the other side of his chest, " I didn't want this engagement, I hate it! It feels to soon, like I'm cheating on Tremaine, and then you come along, and I LIKE you, and that makes it all worse, and it's just not fair! You're not fair!" And then she collapsed against his chest, tangling her fingers in his shirt as she cried, " I'm sorry, I'm a hypocrite, and it's not your fault either, and we were getting along and now all of this is happening. And I'm just so pathetic. I'm sorry." Her words were spoken between the sobs as the flaring lights slowly dimmed, retracting back against her skin, obscuring and going hazy as it collected underneath her glamour. She stayed against him, using him as a stable surface, a solid comfort, and soothing heartbeat as her tears dried and she could finally step back, wiping her eyes as she looked away from him, the light manipulation now fully under control and hidden, " I am sorry." She repeated, her gaze on the ground for a moment before looking back up at him, hesitating, " Can we, can we just pretend we don't know . . . go back to the way it was before . . . Please . . . We can be aware of who we are tomorrow, but today . . . can we just be . . . normal college students? No kingdoms. No engagements. Just ourselves, our jobs, and the hyenas and enclosure to focus on?" Her voice was almost desperate, her gaze desperate and sad, wanting to erase it all, even if it was just a day of pretending it was all okay. She just wanted that mode back . . . and if she was honest, she really wanted to be back in his arms, safe and sheltered there like she'd felt earlier . . . She wanted that conversation, that mode back. She wanted Rhys back, not Prince Rhysand, " Can . . . can I just be Cael, and you can just be Rhys . . . please . . . ?" She didn't want to leave, to leave him, leave this conversation, the feelings of comfort she'd found earlier. She wanted it back and she'd try to be normal if she could. Still, she embraced the information he offered, of going to school for political sciences. She nodded quietly, " I'm studying Business Administration and International Relations . . . well, my parents think I am, anyways - and I will be getting that degree . . . but, I'm officially majoring in environmental science . . ." She admitted quietly, even as she realized he couldn't have known who she was, " I'm . . . sorry . . . I didn't realize you . . hadn't been in town for that long. I was . . . wrong to assume otherwise." She said quietly, softly bowing her head in time with the apology. At the shift of topic to the hyenas, Caelum clung to it like a starving child to a meal. Caelum was surprised at the gentle nip, tilting her head up to Rhys to learn to meaning, and smiling slightly both at being accepted and his laugh. It was a sound she'd missed in the last few moments, although his comment of his introduction to Njeri had her alarmed and she'd immediately looked him over as if to assess he was alright now, " I'm glad I meet her approval, and I imagine anyone would let the larger predator be the boss." She smiled softly to Njeri, tilting her head to the society, " I'm more than willing to accept you're queen in these parts, I control the skies after all." She teased the hyena with genuine warmth, even as she glanced briefly towards Rhys, hoping to here that laugh again. She didn't have to wait long when he spoke of her cousin sounding fun. " Oh, I had my fair share of old, arrogant advisors. I was a nasty little bug to them when I was younger. They likely sent me away from school to get me away from them just as much as to pull me away from her influence." She admitted with a knowing smile, her gaze turning to the air innocently, " Actually I think it was decided shortly after I glued them to their chairs in the council room right before a large event that their absence would have been murdered from. They were rather cross about it all, can you imagine? It was only the strongest glue I could find." Her voice was entirely sing-song, turning her vibrant smile his way, her eyes bright and laughing with the mirth her people where known for when pulling pranks. His words however had her smile falling in surprise, before it returned softer, gentler than the impish look from before, her expression more fragile and delicate, as she looked up at him from beneath her eyelashes, " You really think so?" She asked after a moment, brushing her fingers through her hair, tucking them behind her ear, the motions not quite matching the glamour when she brushed the hair back further than she should have needed to, " What . . . what about you, do you think you could grow to like me, Rhysand?" She asked softly, her gaze drifting to her lap, before she spoke again, just as softly, " You're not so bad yourself, you know. You might have that temper you mentioned, but . . . but you're more than just that. Kind, and gentle, but with a side that seems to promise trouble, the good kind. You're like the embodiment of everything a mother warns their daughter about, and yet everything we're told to look for too." She glanced up at him, a soft giggling leaving her lips, her blue eyes shining softly, " You're nothing like what I expected . . ." He was so much better, if she was honest. So, very much better. He seemed to know just what to say, and even if there was a new fragility to their conversation, a hesitation, they were smiling and laughing again and Caelum was happy to accept it, happy to throw herself into it, before her eyes widened and suddenly she was leaning towards her . . . her fiance again, " You partied with my cousin?" She asked with eager knowledge before he admitted to having laughed and smiled more today. Her smile was warm with a soft nod, " Me too . . . it's . . . a relief." She admitted quietly, " I've missed feeling this . . . comfortable." Feeling more like herself than she had since the kidnapping happened. But the promise of seeing the babies had her smiling with delight, until his sudden comment of seeing them with him not there. The smile fell in alarm, at the reminder of the awkwardness before and in that moment she'd moved, sitting next to him this time, and her hand found his as she looked at him, hesitating for a moment, " No . . . I would . . . like you to be there . . ." She hesitated, a sudden flush on her cheeks, before her face split into another smile, " Uhm . . . actually . . . I . . . . well . . ." Goodness, she couldn't figure out what to say, how to say it - not looking at him anyways. Her gaze dropped to her lap even as she shifted slightly, leaning against his side as she had with Az not so long ago, and in that moment, that contact returned she felt herself relax again, " I don't think . . . being engaged will be so bad, if we . . take it slow, really get to know each other. Hold off until our degrees are done . . . I mean . . . I guess what I'm trying to say is . . ." Her smile shifted, impish again, playful and teasingly, " I think I'm okay . . . with marrying you in time . . . If you're not opposed." She brushed her fingers through the ends of her hair, playing with it softly, " So . . . I'd like you to be there . . . when I meet Az's pups . . . I'd like you to be beside me . . . " and maybe not just for that either. Her gaze was on her lap, her smile soft, delicate before the topic turned to the director and she turned a smile towards Az, warm and reassured, " I promise, Az, should the day come that I need to talk to the director, you can go with me, deal?" She offered the hyena, not admitting the relief at knowing she'd have predatorial back up that would cost her or Rhys trouble with the cops. Her smile did drop for a moment, " I'll need to speak to him soon though. If I want to get this all approved. Unless I chose to just do it and try to get approval after the money's been spent, I don't know which option will be easiest." She admitted after a quiet moment. She sighed softly, shaking her head, before shifting to lean her head against Rhys's shoulder, the tension at what to do leaving her as she sat next to him, " Rhys? What do you think?" She asked quietly, biting her lip as she looked up at him, " What would be the easiest option to get the money? You know the director better." She'd borrow his strength, and she'd borrow his knowledge . . . she'd take what ever she could from him, because somehow in this conversation, during this time . . . he'd become . . . safe.
