Appearance:
Personality:Rina is of average size, standing at 5’6 and weighing just 115 pounds. She has pale skin, winter pale, freckled most commonly on her face, but also on her shoulders and across the upper portion of her chest. She has toned legs and arms, never truly muscled to the point of noticing, but she keeps in shape, keeping her softer curves and lines. Her posture is very good, and she always tends to walk with a sort of sway as if she is walking down a runway. Rina has pale blonde hair that is thick and lustrous, and falls to just below her shoulders normally. Most often her bangs are cut in a near straight line just above her eyebrows, trimmed in such a way to emphasize her facial features and create a more innocent look about her. Her eyes are a pale green/hazel color closest to the pupils, and then the further away the more blue they become, until there is a dark blue line around the outside of her iris. Her eyes lighten or darken depending on her mood, for example, good emotions such as happiness and amusement, paler.
Bad emotions such as anger or pain, very dark, almost black depending on how bad they are. When she fights or is provoked to the extreme her eyes can become a solid black, though it is very rare. Rina’s wings are the same color as her hair, a pale blonde, only she has faint red highlights streaked throughout, adding faintly shimmering lines to them when they’re in the light. As far as body markings and piercings, Rina doesn’t have any tattoos, though she does have scars. She has many scars scattered along her body, none truly major, with the exception of across her left side, closer to her hip, she has a scar, about two to three inches long, raised slightly, though not very wide. Her ears are pierced once on each side, on the lobe of her ear. Also, because of her past, she changes, or has changed, her hair multiple times, among other things. Generally her hair is blond, because that’s her natural color, but she’s been known, and may be seen with brown or red hair, or occasionally even a hair color in between those.
History:
- Determined.
- Rina is extremely determined. She’s the kind of girl who puts her mind to something and gets it done, no matter what it takes or costs for that matter. Given that she doesn’t often dedicate herself so fully to anything small, it’s almost always for the greater good, because she pushes herself to always do better, to be the angel she wants to be, to prove that she isn’t bad, as runs in her family, that she can be an asset to have. More than anything she wants to be accepted, to be cared for and loved as she is, whether or not she does all the good she can or not.
- Gentle.
- Gentle as a kitten, she doesn’t like the thought of harming another. Sure, as an angel, she’s killed her fair share of demons and other creatures, she’s never unaffected. The deaths, the killing, it affects her in numerous ways, many of which don’t manifest until times of the least likely opportunity. Either that or through her dreams. She often sees those that have died, or victims of those she’s killed, haunting her dreams every night, and those tend to be the worst of all of the manifestations of the more than a century’s worth of killings.
- Loyal.
- She’s loyal to the end. Never will she desert a comrade or someone she’s sworn loyalty to. Rina’s an old fashioned girl, she doesn’t believe in allying herself with whoever suits her best, though over the years that’s changed slightly, she still stays on the good side, which means to her either way, if you represent good, then you are to be kept safe and away from harm. Granted she knows how hard that would be, so basically she will always help those in need, so long as they represent the goodness of humanity.
- Protective.
- Kate is extremely protective of what she has, almost to the point of hoarding in the sense that she hates letting anything go, be it human or inanimate, it causes near physical pain to do so unwillingly. Because over her lifetime she’s lost so much, lost so many people and loved ones that she just cannot handle losing anything else. Granted she hides this, because it can be seen as a weakness quite easily, given she will do anything to keep those she cares about safe at all costs, like her brother.
- Withdrawn.
- Due to her past, and given all of what she’s been through, Rina doesn’t know how to handle all the human emotions that come with her human form, and she simply withdraws, pulls back inside of herself to keep from going insane. Or at least that’s what she believes would happen were she to do so. So she often locks down, becomes almost like a statue as far as showing emotions is concerned, and when this happens it’s impossible to reason with her, to try and make her see sense of any kind, and not only that but she also won’t open up again easily.
- Formal.
- Ekaterina is polite and eloquent, using words to give others a semblance of warmth and friendliness even if she herself isn’t quite up to the job of being so kind and nurturing as she wishes. Because she’s over a century old, she has older ways of speech, and doesn’t use much of the current slang and the like, preferring to use good old fashioned words and sentences that are plainly understood no matter where she were to go.
- Nurturing.
- The only time Rina is ever truly happy, truly carefree and loving without restraint is when she’s around children. She just lets her guard down for the children to allow her angelic self to shine through only so much as to relax them, to sooth their worries and troubles, make the load on their frail shoulders lighter. For this reason she visits the local hospitals and places of such nature, orphanages, those types of things for the sole purpose of helping the children, getting to know them and showing that someone does care. She wishes to have children one day, but she knows that the likelihood of something like that happening is highly unlikely, given her age and the fact that her child would likely be born at least 50% angel.
- Glory.
- Her glory, as she calls it, is in all actuality her angelic presence. She ‘brings on the glory’ in numerous ways, some small, some major, and others downright hard to see. For example, when she’s around the children she lets some leak through, easing their spirits while also lifting them. But to show her glory in full scale would be to perhaps downright fill others with fear of such beauty and happiness, for to experience her in full glory is akin to what a normal mortal would call having an otherworldly experience, or to see heaven before death.
Name: ~Tarnished Copper~Contrary to what many might believe, 675 years isn’t a long time. At least not by angel standards. But that’s getting ahead of the story. Ekaterina Zaleskas was born in the Ukraine, or rather, that was where she was created, brought into the otherworldly heaven to serve for greater good. In actuality, she had lived a human life before that, though she died early to save the life of a human child, who would grow up to become her twin brother in angel standards. She died to protect an innocent drawn by fate to violence, and the angels admired her courage in a time of certain death.
She was brought to heaven, shown how to live, how to be who they were, and most of all, trained just as they were. Rina learned to use her powers, her speed and strength, and her wings. It was all so new to her, so new, for she was considered a newborn, not yet old enough to know of how to use her power for the greater good. So she was kept there, in heaven, training and learning and training more until the day came that she was needed. Turns out, she wasn’t given enough time to acclimate to the heavenly world, before she was torn down to take care of a mess she’d played a direct hand in before her death. The human child had grown and was now a young man, wiser in the ways of man, but no better at avoiding the violence of his race.
She found him immersed in the violence, ancient renaissance gangs and wars and battles far out of his league. He wanted to be a hero but took on far too much to handle. It was Rina’s job to keep him safe. He was destined to do a great good for the angelic people, and so he mustn’t fall into the wrong hands. Rina did her job well for a youngster, but the problem was, she grew far too close to him, though not close in the sense one might jump to automatically. It was said earlier that she was to have him as a brother, and it’s true. They grew close, close enough that if one were to look at them their first thought would be twins instead of angel and human.
Ekaterina was happy up until the day came for Lyle to go through with what he was fated to do. Only something went wrong. She interfered when she shouldn’t have, and Lyle died because of it. Sure, his fate had been completed, his destiny fulfilled, but she’d lost him. Or so she’d thought. When she returned to heaven, she saw him there, and it was as if he’d never left, he was stronger, like she was, no longer the frail human she’d known, and their bond of siblings grew stronger, unbreakable.
As angels everyone has set goals, a mission of sorts to complete at all times, but over the course of time, as was given, Lyle began to make the wrong decisions, he began becoming more like that of a judge. He would decide who in his mind was worth saving, and those who weren’t. As such his god-like reactions drew the attentions of those on the wrong side of the balance of life, the demons. He angered some high level demons, who went straight to their leader, who was just as offended, and ordered that justice be served. Rina, fearing for the life of her twin, intervened once more, making a wager that, if she were to win would get her brother back, but if she lost would condemn him to whatever fate they desired of him.
Rina lost.
Her brother was never seen again, and she was forced to continue her job. After his disappearance, her loss, she threw herself into her work, doing jobs to the tee and nothing more, nothing less. She did what was asked of her, a machine. But that is only half of her life story. When she was 350 years old, she was sent on another mission, unique unlike any other, and was sent to become a human’s guardian. Now, guardian work is nothing to be laughed at. To be a good guardian an angel must learn all she can of her client, must learn every single aspect of their life and adjust themselves to them. She just so happened to be protecting a low stable boy, who was destined for greatness, as such things often were.
As he grew, she learned to live again, watching over him and in turn taking strength in knowing how to have fun, how to laugh and make merry with others at the expense of keeping dark thoughts at bay. And as he grew he matured, learning things that would earn him a name in his time, and he also fell in love. He fell in love with his guardian angel, who as ordered, could not reciprocate nor refuse his love.
She was in between a rock and a wall, in a tight space that left no room for maneuvering, and as such she continued on in this way, unknowingly falling for her human in return as he made all efforts to woo her, to earn her affections in a way she’d never given any other. Ekaterina was torn, torn between her duty to her people and her love for her human. She couldn’t pick, and for that she lost what she loved most. The angels, seeing her indecision, decided to intercede with another guardian, believing that in her love ridden state she was inadequate to continue the job.
Nothing went wrong. The new angel did their job and they did it well, keeping to all of the guidelines and doing exactly what they were supposed to. And her human moved on, became greatness as he had been so destined, and she was forced to watch as he married, grew old and had children, and eventually passed on. The worst part? She stayed frozen in her age, forever to live that way, perfection at its finest.
To fast forward a couple centuries, Rina finally got away, preferring to live on her own, away from all else, performing her duties as required but otherwise avoiding any and all contact with angels. She lives the life of a loner, unable to loosen up to show her true feelings while also unable to truly live alone. She moved around often, changing names, appearances, homes and jobs, going through an assortment of them over the next century or so, learning trades and keeping up with the knowledge of this growing world.
Eventually she settled down in New Orleans, LA, opening her own store and settling in to do the best she could with what she was given. Unsure as to why, but she decided to use her birth name, her true name instead of a fake one, and she sincerely hopes that there has been enough time for others to see her only as another pretty face, one of little importance, instead of the 675 year old angel she is.
