Onyx nails sharply connected with the tiled floor, this noise echoing through the silent halls, and he let out a sigh, knowing that the only reason he was here was because he hated staying by himself in the dorms, despite having three other dragons in there that he cared about. They were all off doing their own things and he didn't want to bother them by tagging along, so here he was, a blind brute ambling around with an overtly eager pup who wanted to chase after every single pretty lady they encountered. Instinctively the water dragon shoved his sunglasses back up the bridge of his nose as he felt it slide down a few inches, hand tightening around the handle of the harness as they made a sharp turn, and really that was when it started to get tricky, the speed picking up to a point where it made him unbearably nervous. He let out a strained chuckle as he rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand, trying to make this situation more cheerful, well, before he ran face-first into a door that was apparently left open by the janitor that periodically came through to mop the supply closets.
** Stumbling backwards from the impact, the Asian-American mix stifled a groan and rubbed his forehead whilst blinking those milky eyes beneath his shades, hands flailing around as he tried to grope around for the walls or something. In this moment of surprise he accidentally released his hold on Taboo and the dog went skittering away, barking at some unknown person also within their proximity, probably exiting one of the classrooms as they spoke, leaving his owner bumping around instead. The boy was now slipping around with a groan, ignoring the fact that he was all alone in this vast space that was the school, wondering why his canine had abandoned him yet again. Speaking of the mutt, the eager guide dog was bolting towards the faint sound that he had heard, along with the feminine scent that wafted past his nose, a bark leaving his vocals as he then barreled into the classroom through the barely ajar door. That was when he saw a standing figure near the desk, tongue lolling out of his mouth as he aimed to tackle her playfully, tail wagging the entire while as he attempted to slather her face in a bunch of slobbery dog kisses. Taboo knew he should probably be finding Keanu by now, but he was just so excited to find a lady and maybe get a snack out of her, he knew these teachers would carry candy around or something for their students, and hey, he was a more than excellent student!

The job had only started on July 1, and Relic was already required to dive into her work. She was prepared - no, more than prepared... Excited, and driven to be a part of something to which she could give the passion she'd been incubating for so long. It was something natural that had always existed within her, but never before had she been able to put it to true use.
She never belonged in the therapy joint. She had problems, new and old, of her own. Was she going to listen to everyone else's issues for the rest of her life? Pffft, no - of course not. No one would want that life, and she sure as hell didn't. In fact, looking back, the phoenix found herself questioning why the idea seemed okay at all.
None of that mattered anymore, because she found a comfortable little niche for herself in her fresh occupation.
Why am I so enthusiastic about something I've barely experienced? she thought.
As she made her way down the hall towards the East Wing, heels clicking against the linoleum flooring, Ms. Foster smiled at herself.
It's all of the bottled excitement. Knowing my optimistic self, if this job isn't all I think it's cracking up to be, I'll have gotten my hopes up too high - once again. I'm too conflicted, I guess, trying to keep a positive overview despite how doing exactly that just seems to burn all my bridges down.
Relic slowed her pace as she exited the East Wing.
My classroom...
It sounded so well in her head that she tried it out on her tongue. "My classroom," she chuckled, rolling the shoulder with an empty plastic bag slung over it. Her other arm was nestled under a cardboard box that she pushed inward toward her hip for stability. By the looks of it, she'd just come from arranging her classroom.
She closed her eyes, imagining the first day of the new school year.
Welcome class, my name is Ms. Foster, and I'll be teaching you for short of an hour every day. In case you're a frantic freshman, yes, you're in the right place for psychology. I suggest you get yourself used to the brain models, posters, and diagrams strewn in this little room. It's a truly amazing thing, the human mind. It's capable of so-
The new teacher's eyelids flashed open after being alerted by her ears. The distinct jingle of dog tags on a collar echoed through the corridor, interrupting her thoughts. Her eyes took account of a boy turning the corner at the opposite end of the hallway's stretch. The boy and a German Shepherd shared a short leash, but as the dog caught sight of Relic, it ambled over to her and tackled her. Being caught by surprise had her loose on her feet, and high-heels didn't help the balance factor. It ended up being enough for her to take a tumble. She squeezed her eyes shut as a friendly pink tongue painted her face, nimble paws pressed against her left leg and her lower abdomen. "Ou, kisses!"
|
she laughed, revealing the slightest French accent. Gently moving the canine aside and off of her body, Relic sat up and kicked her shoes off. More freely enabled to move, she pulled herself up to her feet and gave the fluffy shepherd a quick rub. "Sweet dog," she commented as she brushed some fur off of her black blouse. Her legs carried her over to the young man a few yards away, noting his effort to follow the dog. Relic wasn't a moron, and she could read between the lines. This boy was visually impaired, and the GSD must be his guide dog. Question was, what were they doing here? She extended an arm to offer help, and with the other hand, bent down to retrieve the leash his dog was dragging around after it slipped from his grip. She held it out for him, buttery lips curled into a warm smile that this acquaintance probably couldn't see. "My name is Ms. Foster. Are you a student here?" she asked, shoveling a tuft of hair behind her ear. Words: 698 Notes: Edit the title of the thread to include Vet. She's down to join in. |D Muse: Developing... He sometimes wished he had been born blind thus could have more experience and practice rather than having been in that rash encounter with the Japanese mafia dripping acid in his eyes, no that definitely had been no fun. But then again he wouldn't have saved that poor woman, so with a smile he bobbed his head to himself, assuring this was what the gods wanted and as such he wouldn't complain anymore, after all, that would just be rude. Finally he was able to control himself against the wall, only bumping his face against the doors when he realized some of them were open, hands skillfully skimming over the bumps as he tried to memorize the patterns and make a plan where he would be able to expect an impact, but everything had so many variables that it made his head throb with pain. His dog on the other hand was enjoying the petting, rubbing himself along the pretty woman's legs as he licked her retreating hand, grunting when she started leaving the classroom, wanting more attention for himself like the little hog he was, only for his ears to perk forward and notice his master smacking into walls, a doggish snicker leaving him as his tail wagged with an innocent bark. He bumbled his way over to the clumsy teenager as he pressed his nose against his jeans, nipping roughly at his ankles as if he were herding sheep, hearing a whined, “Taboo, that wasn't very nice!”
** Though as his hand smacked forward to try and quickly grab the harness before the German Shepherd could try and run away again, instead he came into contact with a thin wrist, something that surprised him greatly and almost sent him reeling against the wall with fear. He thought he had been alone in these halls, but as his dragon unraveled from within, the boy could smell the homey scent of a teacher, and he smiled softly, guessing she was one of the staff coming in to set up her classroom, a sheepish expression on his lips as he rubbed the back of his neck and took the harness she handed him thankfully, chirping in that overtly cheerful voice of his, “Thank you so much~” He listened respectfully, as was custom in the Asian lands he grew up in, pushing up his sunglasses as they slid down a bit due to his slight bow, taking in her name and associating it with her calm voice and fragrance, beaming, “Pleasure to meet you, Ms. Foster! I'm Keanu Uesugi, and yes ma'am, I am a student~ I was just wandering around from my dorm, thought I would acquaint myself with the halls once more before the school year started again and the halls would be too busy for me to do so.” As he was speaking to her he racked through his memory for any account of such a teacher's name in this school, but he came up with a blank as he added curiously, tipping his head to the side, charcoal follicles swaying a bit as they defied gravity and stood up naturally, “If you do not mind me prying, are you a new teacher? Is your classroom around here?”

Relic was taken slightly aback by the friendly, mannered approach the young man had. So many hours had been spent in front of the mirror, practicing methods of dealing with the probable ample amounts of high-schoolers who think they're the shit. It came also as a pleasant surprise in the way that the majority of visually impaired people she'd met had been spiteful and vinegar 24/7 because of said deficiency. One time, an older man took a swig of Corona in the middle of their dead conversation and bluntly stated, "My philosophy is this. Your god screwed me up, so why obey his rules? He wants us to be generous? Pah, you can call me gener-ass. I was picked on, so I will pick on. Fuck the world." That was before Relic murmured, "I'm not Catholic." The bear then broke his cheap plastic chair, choked on his ale, and stumbled out of the room.
"Of course,"

Rel replied, hoping a warm aura would be a welcome feeling. "I understand, Mr. Uesugi. I'm sure these hallways get to be a zoo." The phoenix shifted her weight to the other foot, her vision trailing off to follow his loyal dog who sniffed around, reacquainting himself as well. The GSD made his way back to Relic having expedited his adventures, then proceeded to investigate her bare ankles, his furry tail giving her leg rhythmic smacks. "Taboo is this charmer's name?" she confirmed, a flashy smile spread across her lips. "Oh, please, pry away! I am a new teacher, yes. A sharp right into the East Wing, a cut to the Science Department, and there my classroom is. Room 4, psychology class... It's at its bare bones. It's come a long way as far as preparation, but it's got much longer to go before it's presentable to my students at the start of the year." The phoenix cocked her head, taking in a thick whiff and narrowing her eyes. "You are a supernatural? What species?" Propping her elbow up against a locker, hips giving way and leaning against the wall, Ms. Foster studied Keanu, the first student she'd met at Cry Wolf High. "Should I count on seeing you in my classroom once school's started?" she tossed out there using a playful tone, so as not to give it off like one of those questions asked with the intentions of 'yes' being the only answer. The canine shoved his cold nose into the back of the pretty brunette's hand, always begging to be the center of attention, though this action of his didn't stay for long, soon enough scampering into one of the vacant classrooms to chase after dust bunnies or whatever the little balls of hair were. The blind boy debating beckoning the mutt to come back, but then shook his head with a chuckle as he focused back on the phoenix, as he could tell by her fiery scent, tilting his head as he listened to her talk, not reprimanding his desire to ask a multitude of questions. He was thankful for her friendly personality, he knew that quite a few teachers in the science department were rather old and stuffy, well if they could be considered that, despite his outer appearance he was quite aged as well. Nearly six thousand years of life wasn't some small number, but compared to the supernatural in front of him, he knew that it was like a mere child in numbers, her life eternal as she would be reborn time and time again. Was that a blessing or a curse? The chance to start over yet have to leave successful times behind, he couldn't even imagine himself in that situation.
** Her question was tossed at him and taken in with a gentle smile as he nodded, finger sliding up those sunglasses once more as they slid down his nose with the movement, chirping in reply, “A water dragon, ma'am~ Though I don't usually take to my natural form, as you may imagine, it wouldn't be very comfortable for the other students if a dragon was walking in these halls!” The next query made him tap his chin in question, pulling out his schedule, received early so he could memorize the routes, and ran a finger over the raised lettering, lips moving in a mumble until he reached around the bottom few classes, a sound of approval leaving him as he answered happily, “Why yes~ Seventh period, oh how wonderful, psychology is such an interesting topic, to just see how others think is fascinating! What topics do you think we might cover in the first few weeks?” He couldn't help but bounce on his heels at the hint that he might get a glimpse into this detailed subject, mental diseases and the process of thought, it was astonishing. He held Relic higher in that sense, seeing her as this intelligent being that was capable of profiling others to a T, and right as he was leaning forward to make sure he wouldn't lose any tidbits of information, he heard powerful footsteps coming from around the corridor. He blinked in surprise, the scent wrapping around him quite familiar as he grinned, not sure if she was coming from behind or from in front, just humming out, “Hello Ms. Pierce!”

The instrument cases banged against her legs as she moved through the quiet halls. With school currently out, the halls were quiet. The majority of the students went home to families - those that had families to go home to - and it left the boarding school blissfully silent. Of course, Ashelin never did like silence. She'd actually just finished filling the empty gymnasium with sound. The heavy cello carted in right hand had given out aching chords of feeling from the heart: a lament to her lost friend. The smaller violin in the case at the left, however, had danced out a cheery Irish folk song she'd heard once upon a time.
The thrum of the music still echoed in her chest and the dragon was far too distracted by it to notice where she was heading, really. Instinct had carried her this far, but she was grateful for the pause and shook out of her reveries at the sound of her name.
"Mr Uesugi," she greeted, setting the black cases down at her feet. "Have you been practicing your techniques like I taught you?" she asked, her narrowed eyes no doubt lost on the blind boy, but her tone was colored by the expression.
The dragon's eyes flickered to the teacher just behind the boy and she grinned. She could always tell when someone was born of fire as she was. But it wasn't scales that fit this one. Too...flighty. She grinned, imagining that this must be the new addition to the staff: Mrs. Foster, a phoenix psychologist.
"Welcome to Cry Wolf High, Foster. Don't mind the crazies. They're everywhere." She extended a friendly hand. "I'm Ash Pierce. Music teacher, drama teacher, and...there's probably something else in there, too."
