OOC: You can find the link to the music later reference in the post at the bottom
BIC: Silver eyes stared ahead, keeping a close eye on the tense figure before her. She had angled her body away from him, to make herself a smaller target, and held herself in an aloof manner. The much large male before her circled her, his body loose and strides graceful. The way his vividly green eyes traced her body though and his confident step betrayed his intentions; the silent panther stalking his prey. He was looking for the slightest flaw in her stance, though she was merely just standing there waiting for instruction. She knew he could hear her relaxed heartbeat, feel the small electro pulses her muscles gave out as she constantly flexed her fists and toes. To the negative eye, she looked almost like she was daydreaming, the glazed look in her eyes easily giving way her blindness.
Good, the male thought to himself, she appears harmless and vulnerable. He had trained her well in the defense arts, now he only hoped her dragon had done well on the magic and offensive fronts. He nodded to Kao to continue and observed as she quickly, but elegantly slid into the various forms her had taught her. She knew she had come very far. Her center balance was strong, her stance wide and stable, and each arm thrust and step precise. The stances were second nature to her now. They met gazes for a moment, his eyes questioning if she was having ‘help’ or alone. He needed to test Kao, not Kats.
He gave her no warning.
The male Wind Dragon blasted forward, one minute several yard away from Kaotanya, and the next slipping through her defenses with his flattened palm ready to strike her neck. Her hands snapped into action, one hand diverting his strike a bare inch to the left. The other flattened palm slammed into his hip, diverting his center balance and twisting his body and forcing his own momentum to turn against him. The slight burning tingle on his skin betrayed the presence of magic to strengthen the blow. She twisted with him, her movements like a dance, all connected flawlessly. Liam didn’t fight it, letting his body fall, twisting himself to catch himself with his free hand.
He kicked his legs out in a pinwheel, trying to catch her jaw, but she was too quick. Her body fell backwards, her hands falling behind her as she backbended away from his legs, springing away. Magic thrummed in the air around them, enhancing her abilities. She had always been faster, more agile than him and even more so now with her magic, but he had several centuries on her and always would.
He attacked relentlessly. Only it seemed less like a training exercise or fight, but rather an intricate dance. They were close at all times, Liam darting in attacks and Kaotanya whirling around with circular motions, diverting his attacks. They were rarely farther apart than a few feet, bodies close together to the point that they seemed to meld.
And quite suddenly it ended. Liam stood behind Kao, his clawed hand gripping her left hand tightly enough to draw blood, his other clawed hand at her throat. Experience had won out.
’Well done, you last much longer on your own that I thought,’ he whispered in her ear from behind her. She was panting, sweat beading on her forehead, the tanned column of her throat exposed. Liam could see the pounding in her jugular vein. Suddenly a grin slipped on her lips. Liam didn’t have time to react.
Her wings flashed into existence, battering him in his face. Her foot snaked out to step behind his (gods he hoped she wasn’t dumb enough to trying to yank his feet out, she’d break her ankle with his much larger frame). Her elbow, coated heavily with magic, slammed home into his solar plexus, he bent over with a wheeze and her other elbow slammed into the base of his skull to crack his head painfully into her awaiting knee. Then her ankle pulled his feet out from beneath him.
Black spots danced across his vision as he lay there wondering what the hell had just happened.
And quite suddenly she wasn’t the warrior queen anymore but his perfectly little Tanya, freaking out and hovering over him. "Oh my gosh, Liam! I’m so sorry, I didn’t think you’d fall for it, I thought you’d block fast enough, oh shit, I think I broke you!" Despite the pain in his head, and no doubt bruise forming on his stomach, he couldn’t help but smart back, ’You did.’
"What?!" her voice squeaked adoreably, and she was grasping his temples much to his displeasure. He batted her away with a hiss as he sat up. ’You broke my damn skull,’he growled as he tried to make the double images go away. Suddenly coolness touched his temples. He opened his eyes to find the corners of his vision glowing silver and the pain left just as quickly as it appeared.
"Better?" she asked, panting physically from the healing. He grabbed a wrist with a sharp frown. ’Quit healing me, it’s too hard for you.’ Kaotanya rolled her eyes and silence stretched between them, comfortable and soothing.
It finally hit her, she’d beaten him. Liam. Her Guardian, one of the best warriors his clan had ever produced. Granted, it had been partly luck, and Liam had been going easy on her. But she had won. She sprang to her feet, laughing and began spinning around him. He scowled sharply. ’Sit down, Tanya, I can’t tell if you really are spinning or its my vision.’
"Haha! Oh I beat you! Finally! Kats is totally eating this up!" she said before she flopped down beside him, her head resting comfortably resting in his lap. He stared down at her smiling face, his own face blank, thought there was a vague softening around his eyes as he laid down, folding his arms under his neck. Kaotanya listened to the birds around them before dipping into the magic around and bringing forth a slither of the music only she could normally hear.
She saw Liam tense, then a very un-Liam-like calmness slithered into his muscles as the music became known to more than just her ears. She rolled over, resting her folded arms on his toned abdomen and her chin upon her arms. She could hear his heartbeat. Her human appearance slide away to her median form, glittering starlight sparking up across her cheeks and temples. She now had not only one streak of white in her bangs, but a second one starting. Liam opened one eye and stared for a moment, then reached forward to touch the new white streak. She ducked away and quickly sat up, drawing her knees up to her chest.
Liam followed her and sighed, noticing her closed off posture. He reached a long arm out and pulled her into an embrace, ducking round her wings as his own leathery black wings slipped into view to encompass her as well. ’You’ll do wonderfully at the coronation, don’t worry,’ he whispered only for her. They stayed there for a little while longer before the setting sun betrayed the time. Liam dismissed Kaotanya after confirming he’d see her at the dorm later. Kaotanya rubbed her arms and turned around.
She had a special ‘meeting’ to rush to.

Post by KRITON ADONIS VOLKOV on Sept 4, 2014 8:22:48 GMT -6
Kriton pulled up to the city park in his sleek black car, throwing it into park. He stepped out, noticing the few looks his car got, some angry ones from the tree huggers and then some appreciative ones. He paid no mind to either of them, his mind was too focused and racing on one particular subject. He set out on the main path, walking quickly and looking for one of the less traveled paths. He wasn’t really in the mood to be around other people currently but he knew he couldn’t just lock himself in his house. God knows what that would cause.
He stepped off onto a smaller path that cut through a grove of trees. This had become a new habit of his, taking walks through the park. It was calming in a way that he desperately needed these days. His whole life had been turned upside down in a matter of a few weeks. He had begun to question everything he had ever known, everything he had ever done. The only thing he had known his whole life and had given him meaning now weighed on his mind like a 10 ton boulder. He stopped and leaned against a tree, rubbing at his temples. All of those people he had killed, and others he had been indirectly responsible for their deaths. There were so many, too many to count. A few weeks ago he hadn’t given two shits… and then he stumbled across Kao.
Kao. His beautiful little dragon. He still clearly remembered the first time he had met her during a rain storm. There had been music and magic floating in the air, and her skin had sparkled with the hint of her dragon. He had not seen that since, but he still remembered. He remembered how beautiful she had been and how taken aback he was. Then they had gone to get some coffee together and now they had been seeing each other regularly. She was changing him, perhaps for the better, but she didn’t know that. She didn’t know who he was and what he had done. He could not bring himself to tell her. He knew as soon as he spoke of it she would turn and run, as well she should. But he had cut all ties with his “business,” taking all of the money out of the accounts and dumping it into one, secret account. He had enough to last him a good amount of time but he knew he would have to find an actual job soon if he wanted to keep his past a secret from Kao. She brought him so much life, made him realize how good the world actually was and that life had value. He didn’t know what he would do anymore if he didn’t have her.
He turned a corner of the path and came up short. A small figure stood a distance away and at a second glance he realized it was Kao. Just standing there, looking like she was enjoying the weather. A small smile played at his lips. She was out here just about as much as he was and he didn’t find it odd at all to run into her here. He took a few more steps toward her and stopped again, this time a frown on his face. She wasn’t alone. He saw now that there was a male standing behind her, his face just at her ear, his hand around her throat. Anger and panic flared in Kriton’s chest as he began to move towards Kao with the thought of saving her from what must surely be her attacker. But then, she moved quickly, her wings appearing and her hands flying, cracking his face off of her knee. He blinked towards her direction. He hadn’t known she knew how to do that. He had thought her a small, fragile girl. He realized he may have been wrong.
But then she dropped to her knees and her hands fluttered over him, her words carried to him on the wind. Oh my gosh, Liam! I’m so sorry, I didn’t think you’d fall for it, I thought you’d block fast enough, oh shit, I think I broke you! Liam? She knew his name? And what was this whole “blocking” thing? What the hell was going on? He moved closer to the trees, hiding himself more from there view. He watched as she touched his temples and then the male- Liam, sat up. Then Kao was laughing and laying her head in his lap. Rage. It consumed Kriton in an instant and urges he had not felt for weeks flared in his mind. The little bitch was cheating on him. How dare she. He had changed his entire life for her, and here she was with this guy. His hands clutched at the tree, his fingers turning white. His face twisted into a snarl and he whirled away, stomping back down the path. He needed to leave or he would do something he would no doubt regret at this point. He got in his car, slamming the door. He didn’t stop, he simply turned the key and threw the car in reverse, pulling out and then hitting the gas, tires squealing as he tore down the road back to his house. She would be coming to his house in a few hours. And he would be waiting for her.

"speech"/'thoughts'
Kaotanya ran along the beaten path, only partially paying attention. Her hands riffled through her tangled curls, trying desperately to work lose any knots. When normal finger combing failed, she coated her fingers with magic and let the silver thread do their work. Once her sparring-tousled hair was relatively smooth (you could only do so much with her wild, wavy tresses), she slowed her jogging to a fast walk and quickly began weaving the strands into a partial French braid to keep her bangs out of her face. She let the rest fall in loose curls and waves down her shoulders.
She stopped by the park bench were she had hidden her bag and did a quick scan of her surroundings to ensure she was alone. She slipped the navy and white striped skirt from her bag, slid it over her work out shorts, and then neatly worked her shorts out beneath the skirt. She folded them, stuffed them in the bag, and pulled on the white cardigan. ’You worry way to much about your appearance for this nymph,’ a voice grumbled within her head.
Kaotanya worked the silver necklace out from beneath her shirt and gazed down at the citrine gem, her silver and black vision nearly washed completely white with the magic the stone held. She knew to normal eyes that the stone seemed to shimmer with a light its own, and those who knew of magic tended to notice it a lot sooner. It housed the soul of her dragon counterpart, Katswiri, and right now she could tell the luminescence of the sacred family gem was glowing brighter than normal with the dragon’s irritant mood. ’And your point? I am a girl, afterall, am I not allowed to worry if I at least appear decent?’
Katswiri snorted, ’Not for this heathen. He’s a water nymph, and not to mention a liar.’
Kaotanya rolled her eyes as she shouldered her bag, spreading out her silver striped, white wings. She flexed them a bit before pushing off, manipulating the wind currents to create a strong updraft to lift her effortlessly. She turned towards her dorm room, knowing her window would be open enough so she could toss her bag. She had her ID and some emergency cash on her person else where, she no need for the bag. ’He is far from a heathen, and if you want to get snippy and technical, I haven’t ask him nor pushed him about anything in his personal life, so he’s no need to lie. Every is allowed their privacy!’
She hovered outside her dorm window, listening for any movement inside. Her roommate’s dog, Taboo, stuck his head out the window in greeting and Kao ruffled his large German Shepherd ears before shooing him back inside. Of course no one would be home, Liam was out probably stalking that Water Dragon, and her other roommates...
She shoved aside the dark thoughts. She’d see her roommates back to where they belonged soon enough. Until then, Mocha and Taboo would remain under her care. ’And I supposed you leaving out a very key important part of yourself is not lying. Actually, not just one, but several key points! You’re getting too close to this nymph, Kao!’ Kao frowned and flapped her wings harder, rising into the air. She closed her eyes, felt the wind caress her hair and kiss her cheeks. She missed flying, really flying. Flying like this didn’t even hold a candle to flying as a dragon. She couldn’t go nearly as high, nor as long, and after long periods of flight in this form, her shoulders and back hurt something horrible. She wasn’t made to fly in this form, but as a dragon...
’We’re just friends, Kats. Close friends, yes, okay, I will admit that. And friends help each other, I can sense he is going through something right now and I will not let another friend down. If I cannot help one person, how can I expect a whole kingdom to listen to me!’ Kao glowered ahead of her, as she let the wind currents guide her. Up here, she was nearly completely blind. Katswiri gently nudged her lower and to the left. ’If you’re so worried how he’ll react to my own secrets, we’ll find out to night. And don’t try to stop me!’
Katswiri grew silent, pensive even. It wasn’t very often the fiery priestess took the time to pick her words. She was brash, sharp, vulgar, and let anyone and everyone have a piece of her mind with the littlest provocation (and sometimes none at all!) Kao pursed her lips as she landed carefully just down the street from Kriton’s house. Her senses told her she was alone and the coolness that settled on her skin signaled it was now night. Blindness, even with her minor sight, made it hard to judge time. The flight had taken her much longer; she always tended to underestimate it. There was a sharp pain in between her shoulder blades.
’When have I ever been able to stop you when you really wanted something? I fear in this situation all I can do is just wait for him to hurt you and catch you when you fall. I may be a mess myself, but I’m pretty adept in picking up pieces. I won’t stop you, but I will warn you. It is very different from me telling someone. It is easy to believe. Besides, I’ve only ever told dragons. You never got this far with Lothario and he was technically by modern standards your...’boyfriend?’ for all of a few weeks.’ The dragon queen paused, sensing the pain that the topic of Lothario brought up even after all this time.
’You will not only be bringing someone from outside our species into this mess, you will be laying bare your deepest secret. There is no turning around, and no taking it back. Understand that to many eyes, and maybe even his... actually no doubt his, that this is a step to being more than just friends, Kao. Are you ready for that?’ Kao blinked as she slowly walked down the street, counting her steps just to occupy her mind. She knew the answer to that. No, she wasn’t. But something just kept pulling her back to Kriton. Her thoughts never strayed far from his face. ’I wish…I could see it, his face. Just once, to really actually see it.’
’I wish I could help, my sweet girl, and I wish that our bonding had never taken your real sight, but there is nothing we can do about it now, no use pining after the unrecoverable,’ Katswiri murmured as Kao approached the white house (Kats had been kind enough to tell her the color of it and even Kriton’s eye and coloring, though that had been a stretch.) Not that it mattered much, after a year of blindness, she was quickly losing the after images of what colors looked like. Now her world was black, grey, silver, and more black. One could only get so much from blue and brown. She raised her hand to knock on the door, then realized she was probably a little late.
She tentatively grabbed the door knob, twisted it, and pushed, surprised that the door opened so easily. She stepped over the threshold, nervous by the quietness. Her eye sight couldn’t tell her that it was dark within the house with only the barest of light for someone to see their way. Her eyesight relied on the life force of plant and animal life and the magic that clung to that life force. So it was pretty blank for Kao regardless if there had been a huge spotlight present. She stopped, closing the door behind her, too nervous to walk any further lest she trip over something and face plant. The necklace around her neck cast an eerie glow upon her face. ”Um...Kriton? I’m here, sorry I’m late!”

He pulled into his drive way with tires squealing, slamming the door and stomping into his house. By this point he was seething. He had thought himself into an even bigger rage and nothing could stop him now. A snarl ripped from his throat as his fist hit the wall and went through it, leaving a gaping hole in it. He stood there for a moment, breathing hard and staring at the wall. He pulled his hand out slowly, breathing through his teeth, looking at the slivers of blood running down his hand with disinterest. She had built his world and destroyed it in the matter of minutes. He had nothing. Nothing. He had cut ties with everyone from his old world and any of them would surely try to kill him if they found him. Most were too afraid to come after him, but some would take the chance if he gave it to them. He was stuck. He could only pack up and leave.
He dropped his coat to the floor and his keys to the counter. He glanced at the time on his phone. She’d be here in a few minutes. Perhaps he should be polite and wait for her. A smirk spread across his face as he walked into his living room and flopped down in his recliner. Surely he could do that much. He would make her understand the huge mistake she had made.
He didn’t have to wait long until he heard the door swinging open and her tentative footsteps in the entry way. The wicked grin played on his lips again, the adrenaline of the situation singing in his veins, and old friend returned to him. He knew about her sight. He didn’t give a shit. He hadn’t turned one light on in this house and there was nothing living in this house. She was basically completely blind. Um...Kriton? I’m here, sorry I’m late! He tilted his head and stood. ”I’m here, Kaotanya.” He took a few steps out into the entry way, staring at her face that was bathed in the glow from her necklace. He tilted his head. ”Well, well, you’ve changed your clothes since I last saw you. At least you felt the need to make yourself more presentable for me. Or should I take that as an insult? Perhaps Liam,” he spat the name with hatred, ”gets the real you and I just get this cheating little bitch side of you.” He took a few more steps toward her, still keeping a few feet between them. ”Do you have any idea what you have done, Kaotanya? Do you know how much fucking trouble you have created for me?” He ground his teeth together and slammed his hand down on the table next to him with a crack, making the lamp on it rattle. ”Well, Kao, since I’ve figured out your little secret, let me inform you of my secret. You see, I’m a special kind of businessman. I run the biggest hit man business in the world. I’m the top dog of them, responsible for hundreds of deaths. I have the highest technology available to me for covering my tracks. I know so many discreet ways of killing a human that it would blow your mind. Certain people here my name and run for the fucking hills. And you know what, Kaotanya? I gave that all up. I gave it up, FOR YOU. I cut my ties, I started looking for a new way of life. But right now, at this moment, I’m thinking it might be a pretty good fucking profession to be in.”

"speech"/'thoughts'
There was this nagging little voice in her head telling her to not move an inch farther into the house. And no, for once that voice was not Katswiri. She may be blind, but she could feel the darkness within the house closing in on her. Katswiri floated to the forefront of her mind, hovering behind that thin veil that separated her from taking control of Kao and shifting them into their dragon form. The very fact that Katswiri did this without a word only made Kao even more nervous. She pressed a shaking hand to the wall beside her, trying to find something solid so he would not see her shaking and used it as a guide to walk a few feet farther into the house. Something was wrong.
When she finally saw the vague flicker of his silver form step into her ‘sight’ she almost breathed a sigh of relief. But a low growl within her head, and his words, caused her body to lock up. Ice trickled down her spine, bringing her bone weary, limp wings up from their partially dragging position to a flight ready stance. Goose pimples rose on her arms and instinct seized her throat, an undignified squeaks coming from her lips. His course language had never been unheard by her; Katswiri was a vulgar mouthed creature after all. ’Get out of here Kao. Don’t make me take control.’
”C-cheating...wha-”, she stammered, unable to form a proper thought. ’Shut up, idiot girl, say no more!’ Katswiri roared, but Kriton was barging on with his rant and she could do nothing but take the tongue lashing. Each word might as well have been a physical blow.
Kao was frozen, her blood roaring in her ears as her eyes burned with the tears gathering there. She took a step back as the first tear fell, so confused and…humiliated? She heard his footsteps come closer and saw his form waver in her darkened vision. He had seen them this afternoon. God, she had been so stupid! She should have known he’d be in the park, she should have told Liam to keep their practice on school grounds! But he had wanted privacy, and the park was larger!
’Kao!’
She didn’t see his hand move until the crack of it slamming down on the table was heard, so much louder to her sensitive ears. Her hands automatically came up to shield her face, but were lowered just as fast. And suddenly there was fire and ice, battling its way up her stomach to her heart. Her hand grasped at her shirt, twisting the material over it. She felt the fire burn it’s was up to her eyes, felt the brief flash of power at her neck.
Her eyes flashed molten copper and Kao stumbled back a few steps, a hand trying to grasp for her necklace. There was a flash of pulsing orange light and Kao yelped as the hot metal burned her palm, refusing to be smothered. Her teeth suddenly seemed no long human and her pupils were slitted. ”Fucking try it, Nymph,” the voice was raw and filled with vile hatred, so not Kao. Kao bit down on her lip so hard, blood dribbled down her chin. ”Shut up! Both of you! I never asked for any of that from you, Kriton! What right do you have to shove that down my throat?! I’m not someone’s possession anymore, and I won’t be treated like dirt again!” She looked up, her eyes gray once again, but the light was gone from them like that day at the coffee shop. She looked defeated and her voice trembled. ” You think you fucking scare me with that talk, it’s all I’ve been hearing the past year, how everyone is going to want to kill me. You won’t even give me a chance to explain myself before you rip my damn head off! You have no right to get jealous, you do not own me, and we are not dating…” her voice trailed off. ’Are we, though?’

Kriton heard Kao begin to stammer out a response to his verbal assault, but he continued talking right over her, unable to stop the torrent of words pouring out of his mouth. He was just so pissed. He was pissed at her for putting him through this and he was pissed at himself for being so stupid to allow feelings to creep into his head and screw things up. He could still be living in his blissful little murderous bubble if it wasn’t for this damn girl.
His hand stung from the contact with the table but he barely noticed as he watched her hands come up to cover her face and then grab her necklace. Her voice as she cried out from seemingly the touch of the necklace and then her eyes were changing. He moved his hand to the drawer of the table where he kept one of the many weapons hidden around his room. If she was on her way to her dragon form, he would not hesitate to protect himself from being dinner. His mind was already running over new location possibilities, but instead all that happened was, Fucking try it, Nymph. Kriton’s eyes narrowed at Kao. It was not her voice that had spoken, it was a much nastier voice. Kao’s was soft, even when she was angry. His hand still rested on the knob to open the drawer. Kao’s eyes faded back to their normal color and when she spoke again it was her voice. What the fuck was going on? He was used to weird with Kao, but this was some other kind of freaky shit.
Shut up! Both of you! Both? It was only her and him standing here, wasn’t it? Was this chick out of her fucking mind? He watched her as she spoke, his anger rising with each word she spoke. ”No right? No fucking right to get jealous? WE’RE NOT DATING? What the fuck, Kao! Just what the fuck! What did you think we’ve been doing for the past few weeks, just going out for coffee? Just having a good ‘ole time as pals? Did I not make myself clear of my intentions? Or did you just not give a shit since you had someone else on the side? I bet you’re lying to that poor bastard as well, you fucking bitch!” His voice rose as he spoke and by the last word he was practically screaming with rage. Without thinking he grabbed the lamp off the table and flung it at her, aiming for her head.

"speech"/'thoughts'
Katswiri growled lowly in her mind, twisting and turning against the barrier that separated her and Kao in a desperate desire to get her out. ’Please, Kao, just stop talking and leave!’ Kao completely ignored her, turning a literal blind eye to the tiny voice. Her white wings flared up behind her, feathers fluffed out so that they appeared twice their normal size. The stripes flashed between sharp blue and silver on the pristine shafts. Her whole body was quivering and her sightless eyes were hard and cold. Her voice cracked as she finally gave up attempting to defend herself and just let it out. ”YES, THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT! You’ve barely even touched me, much less have even tried to kiss me, so OBVIOUSLY you didn’t make your ‘intentions’ fucking clear! Liam is my guard-”
There was a scrap as something on the table was moved. Then the sharp whistle of an object in the air caught her attention. She knew that sound. In hindsight, the only thing that had probably saved her from a nasty hospital visit was the grueling training that had honed her skills and instincts. She cringed back into the door with a harsh thud, crushing one wing beneath her body with a gasp. The wing not trapped between her and the door sprung up to protect her face. A bare nanosecond later and she would not have escaped so luckily. Even so, the heavy lamp crashed into the delicate wall of feathers with bruising force, and then shattered upon the hard floor. A plaintive cry escaped her lips, the world tilting out of balance as she fell ungracefully to the floor. Sharp teeth pricked her hands and fingers and heat streaked up her arms. She simply sat there for a moment, gasping, listening to the slow flutter of feathers drifting to the ground around her. Sharp metallic bit at her nose. She hand but a few moments to stand and fumble with the door. The knob wouldn’t turn beneath her strangely slick fingers immediately and she felt control falling. She shoved herself against the door, adrenaline blocking out the pain of bruised wings and split skin. The handle finally turned and the door gave way beneath her just as the transformation rippled across her body.
In an explosion of light and white and blue feathers, speckled with rusted red, the frosty dragon took form with an ear splitting roar and shower of white flames. The blade that tipped her tail swung wildly in her uncoordinated flight, gouging a deep line in the ground below. Her four wings flared and flailed, her serpentine body writhing on itself as her wings attempted to life her in flight fruitlessly. Katswiri was able to lift herself a few feet from the ground before she crashed with a great noise and rolled. She scrambled to her legs, steam jetting from her nostrils as she shook the stars from her vision. She snarled and swung her head about wildly, lifted her wings and with a few struggling flaps, launched herself into the air. With a final roar and blast of searing flames, she was gone into the night.
Her vision was blurred and her mind uproar with Kao’s wailing and emotional strife. Adrenaline prevented her from feeling the majority of the pain from her wounds, but dragons felt emotions tenfold and Kao’s were not going to be blocked this time around. She could fly for her long, her bruised, injured wing was faltering and uncooperative. She landed rather ungracefully in the park, close to the pond where Kao and Kriton had first met. This sent Kao into another wailing tangent and Katswiri responded in kind, only in her own particular way. She roared loudly and lashed her tail, taking out a few trees around her. She gouged lines in the dirt with her claws, snapped at imaginary foes, and threw herself into the pond. Her power pulsed around her, dropping the air temperature drastically and bringing forth a rolling fog. Ice formed a thin layer atop the water and crept up her side, weaving into the short white mane like some foreign vine. She thrashed her head about, creating large waves that froze into great spires of ice around her. The icy world she created around her soothed her anger and numbed her pain, lulling Kao into a stupor. It was quiet around them, for nothing dared make a noise in fear of bringing forth the dragon’s fury once more. This was as close to her birthplace of the ancient tundra as she’d get. And so, among that self-made frozen waste land Katswiri found her peace, even if she knew it was only temporary.
