Post by NIKOLUS ODIR DANTHOS on Jun 16, 2015 22:27:24 GMT -6
Character Name: Nikolus Odir Danthos Family Name Sylvano Nickname: Nik, Nikko, Nikkie Age: physically eighteen Gender: Male Grade: Townie Race: Wind Dragon Play-by: Chris Pratt Appearance:
Human: With a more rugged appearance than his brother, Nikolus is just as handsome with a roguish appearance. Considered a twin in just about everything but minor details and being born second in his egg batch, there is no mistaking the family resemblance. In both human form and dragon. Nikolus has the same dark hair, except for maybe a few shades lighter and a few streaks of auburn. It is normally cropped short due to any extra length makes it curl rather haphazardly over his forehead. Standing just over 6 foot, he seems to follow the family's rule of tall, dark, and handsome. His eyes though, are noticeably brighter than Liam's, a soft green the color of freshly grown grass, with honey rings around his irises; there is no mistaking the mirth shining there. He appears much scruffier than most of his well put together family, a hit of a five o'clock shadow is almost always present upon his jaw. His ears exhibit the common Danthos traits, with the tips sharply pointed. He's reasonably toned, nothing like his intimidating over muscled brother, but he certainly has a fine psyche. There's a small scar that cuts the distal tip of his left eyebrow off obtained in recent years. He has a rather nonchalant aire about him. While Liam is the panther waiting in the shadows to strike, Nikolus views himself as the leopard watching the chaos leisurely from above.
Dragon: Nikolus's dragon form is nearly identical to his brother's. Unlike Liam's dragon form though, Nikolus has more teal in his color scheme and exhibits a spinosaurus type body figure, bi-pedal with strong forearms. From a distance, it is nearly impossible to tell the two apart, and even his arms are hard to see. Up close things are a bit easier to differentiate. The four spikes at the end of his tail seem less sturdy, in fact, all his spikes seem to be flexible: they droop sideways, seeming to bend this way and that over his spine, all connected by a thin fringe often seen in water dragons. Nikolus lives up to family standards, being large in size, though when next to Liam, he is most certainly smaller. He is roughly 25 feet at the shoulder, and as his profile is considerably lower to the ground, stands only 30 feet at the forehead. His body type doesn't allow him to stand quite as upright as Liam, the weight of his arms pulling his fore downward. His wingspan is not nearly as large as Liam's. In fact, taking his body size, at 50 feet, it is quite small. But his wings are different than most. His wing membranes don't attach from shoulder to hip, but rather extend half way down his tail. They fold differently, almost like window blinds, to rest parallel with his spine and seemingly disappear tucked up against his spinal fringe. There is a large puckered scar, the scar of a stab wound, up high on his the inside of his right thigh. His camouflage allows him to hide it most days and colors it black like a strange marking. Cold and weather make the old wound seize up the muscles and leave him with a strange limp where the leg remains stiff and almost locked in position.
Health & Abilities:
health Nikolus tried to live as healthy as he can, but Niko's immune system is pretty shoddy. He's susceptible to pneumonia and suffers from hypotension (low blood pressure) which also leaves to him being slightly anemic. He combats this with an iron rich diet, but as his body goes through bouts of handling copper toxicity, it can only help so much. On particularly bad days, he's prone to vomiting and even worse days still, exhibits hematemesis (vomiting blood). Most days he does fine, but when he's forced to stand against an enemy or subdue Liam's Beast, things get pretty hairy.
Copper Fueled Fire Due to the Bastet attack from his childhood, Nikolus's body has been infected with copper molecules that have bound themselves to his bone marrow. His bone marrow produces red blood cells that hold copper, which fuel his fire. His flames are a beautiful blue-ish green, teal if you must. It does not burn as hot as most traditional flames, but it burns for an absurdly long time and may produce odorless fumes that can easily knock someone out.
Camoflague & Mimicry Unlike his brother, who's ability for camouflage is taken from light density shifting, Nikolus is essentially a chameleon. Nikolus can change the color of his scales to match his surroundings, which means his brother's side effect of a slight haze upon movement does not affect Nikolus. His scales hold enough hyper sensitive and rapid fire guanine crystals that he can move nearly perfectly. His scales can adapt at a pace 20 times faster than a chameleons. Nikolus also exhibits a similar power, one he simply called Mimicry, in which he can assume the form of another individual by simply touching them. His scales will adjust at a much slower rate in ripple effect from the epicenter of contact. He only needs to touch someone once to mimic them for life. The details in this 'Mimicry' are unknown to anyone, even Niko, but they are more than just simple games of mimicing.
Matter Shifting Niko's cells change at the cellular level to mimic someone. Not only do Niko's scales change, but he also can display horns and frills like the one he mimics. His cells even change at the molecular level and adopt the other's DNA. Salaem uses this Matter Shifting to prevent himself from being genetically linked to Nikolus. In terms of matter shifting, Nikolus has no clue what it is. It is an ability only Salaem has adept control in. Ever since the near death experience by Beast, the powers are practically useless. But Salaem can still shift his molecules to the point where he becomes semi-transparent and can partially phase through objects. He can essentially, move his molecules and those he touches, around and fit his hand hand in your chest without the slightest trace of blood. Electrical impulses inhibit this ability, which is why Niko/Salaem is so wary of Beast. Salaem's ability to shift his molecules apart is what saved Niko's life that night Beast attacked. He was able to shift his molecules apart so that just enough lighting passed through harmlessly. It took several years for Salaem to regain any minor control back over his matter shifting. Personality:
Black Sheep secondary traits: disowned by family, Sylvano in all but name, coward, not a warrior Nikolus's whole life has been defined by this term. He hails from a family well known in the dragon kingdoms as a warrior clan. Yet, Nikolus is no warrior. At the time of his birth, it was not expected he would survive. He was born very sickly and weak, something his parents knew little how to handle. All their eggs before had been strong and healthy. While Liam and Tyrellia excelled in everything from day one, Nikolus failed. He was a problematic child and gave his family much grief. In a world where the strong survive and the weak are left alone, Nikolus grew up very much ignored by everyone. Except Liam, of course. But Liam could not protect Nikolus from everything. Nikolus survived despite his childhood neglect, though it certainly left its unwanted scars. He eventually learned to defend himself, though it was by no impressive means. He is a rather cowardly creature, preferring to avoid conflict. Eventually, Nikolus's personal actions left the clan renouncing him as a Sylvano in name. There is more to the story but no one knows exactly what. But one does not give up their family so easily. In the family oriented and social society that is Wind Dragons, it is well known who the Sylvano's are. And while Nikolus can change the color of his scales, he cannot change his form. The Sylvano is a clan of royalty, where darkened scales and wyvern-esque forms hail supreme. Nikolus is literally Sylvano in scales, in body, but never in name. It is viewed as one of the most humiliating and cruel practices of the wind dragons, to be stripped of family.
Optimistic secondary traits: upbeat, warm, conscientious, friendly, spontaneous, thrill seeker, fun In an effort to survive his bleak childhood and combat the mental/personality disorders the Sylvano clan seems to be plagued with (and probably influenced by the fact he IS a playful wind dragon), Nikolus is a bright and cheery creature, almost overbearingly so. He's friendly to a fault, almost trusting. He's affectionate with a sense of humor that can make anyone laugh. He can be rather forward with his compliments, but he's gay, so many views him as harmless, the comments even funny. He's a jokester, and selfless to the point that he will happily be the butt of someone's joke or even their punching bag if it means they will be happier. He likes to do things on a whim, and is a mild adrenaline junky, but is a bit too fond of his health to do the crazy things some do to get that feel good rush. He's conscientious, honest, and a pretty bad liar. In a way he seems shallow, rarely does one get to see his deeper, sensitive side. He likes to play off he has a calloused skin, but really, it's only so thick. He sometimes wishes he had Liam's metal form, maybe the comments others think he doesn't hear wouldn't hurt so much.
Heterodox - meaning does not form to society secondary traits: rebellious, cautious, freethinking, closet straight, clingy, irresponsible, attention seeker Due to his childhood neglect, Nikolus is turned into a rather rebellious being. He's a rule breaker, and a firm believer that the only reason rules exist is to be broken. It all boils down to being an attention seeker. His neglect as a kid has turned him into a serious attention whore. Everything he does is from his desire to simply be recognized, acknowledged. It doesn't have to be good or bad, so long as someone knows who he is and is willing to talk to him. It really is quite sad. He gets easily attached to those who show any interest in him. He's like a good drug, bad for you cause he's a drug, but good also because in all honesty, he's not really harmful. Despite his rebellious, wild child nature, Nikolus is a cautious person, afraid to go too far. He is pretty cowardly after all, so in a tight situation, he will avoid and run if it looks like he has to fight his way out. He weasels his way in and out of things, and his irresponsible attitude means others often suffer the consequences of his own actions. From very early on, Nikolus was hopelessly awkward around females. It didn't help much that they teased him mercilessly when he was young. After years of avoiding them and make gooey eyes at his elder brother, they quickly began assuming he was gay, for he showed very little interest in them. This new discovery made the girls suddenly flock to him and the conversations were suddenly so much easier to handle and understand. Nikolus is not actually gay, far from it, but after centuries of playing gay to get attention, things stick. If you lie long enough, Even the liar begins to believe that lie.
Borderline/Dependent Personality Disorder secondary traits: morbid jealousy, Liam obsessed/dependent, SOA/suicidal tendencies Despite his best attempts at combating the Sylvano tendencies to mental illnesses, Nikolus developed some rather unpleasant attributes, though most are quite mild compared to most of his family. Nikolus has a jealous streak that runs a mile high and several wide when it comes to sharing Liam. Liam is all he's ever really had, especially now that his family has effectively disowned him and he is unwelcome on the main clan grounds. Tyrellia barely tolerates him at the request of Liam, who has had little time for him since taking on his charge Kaotanya. Liam puts up with Nikolus's jealous guarding and wanton behavior because Nikolus was there for him when he needed it back when Liam killed Etheria. Liam has always been a little too forgiving when it comes to Nikolus. Nikolus can exhibit aggression to those who are forced to share Liam with him. He's learned to tolerate Kaotanya in the centuries that Liam has cared for her and grown to consider her a second sister. When one is as keenly aware of your well being as Kao is and a bit of the same soul (Kao is also optimistic and a black sheep), it's hard to hate them forever. It still doesn't stop Nikolus from occasionally being a little rough with his words around her, though now it's less aggressive and more teasing. Had Nikolus been raised any different and his health any better when younger, he would have made a fine warrior, guardian even. In the same manner of Liam, Nikolus suffers from bouts of sudden onset aggression. It's not very often, but his aggression swings from words and emotional bashings, to physical ones. Often more than not, the recipient of his physical aggression is too shocked to retaliate before he disappears. History:
Childhood: Even as an egg, Brigham and Clementine were worried about Niko. His egg was much smaller than any others they'd had before and no matter what they tried, the egg would not retain any warmth. Born in a society of warriors, the Sylvano prosper emotionally, and while they loved their children dearly, the parents were prepared and even hoping that the egg would not last. They feared any child born from such a malformed egg would only have a life of suffering. Their silent hopes were dashed when all three eggs from this clutch quivered and hatch within seconds of each other.
Nikolus was half the size of his siblings, but just as old as them. He spent most of his early years between sick, bound to bed, screaming his head off in discomfort (and a baby wind dragon screaming is NOT pleasant. He was responsible for numerous elders bad hearing) and doggishly following Liam around, tripping over his oversized wings. He grew up sheltered because of his frequent illnesses and any social outing without his brother immediately present was more emotionally and mentally taxing for the poor child than it should be. He is a wind dragon; he should be a social butterfly. Yet he turned inward, his stutter and awkwardness was the brunt of many a joke.
He grew up well loved, don't ever think otherwise, but being a bit of a burden in a family so large, it was much too easy to simply forget about Niko sometimes. He was a shy boy afterall, afraid to speak up. He attached himself quickly to Liam, and many who know of the deep bond between the two say that it is what jump started Liam's Guardian instincts. Liam was Niko's protector and Niko worshiped him for it. He tried to copy everything Liam did in an effort to be likeable because his shy ways and childish stutter made bullying him easy. Nikolus never quite fit in with his family. It wasn't entirely their fault, for as Niko grew older, he sought attention and approval outside the family rather than within. He never felt the need that most Wind Dragons do for a tight functional family. As he grew stronger and less sickly, his mother tried to strengthen their bond, but Niko had become set in his ways.
Adolescence: Time passed and Nikolus began to grow healthier. He slipped from the stick-thin, sickly child to a gangly, leggy pre-teen who was ready raise hell. At this point, his lost his stutter and found some comfort in others his age, mostly his close cousins and older sisters from previous clutches. Growing up he never interacted much with his older brothers who played much too rough for his mother's comfort. When the subject of more mature matters came around, as Niko was quite naive at this point, the teasing turned more hurtful and less playful. He was now avoided not because he was 'gross' or 'germy' or 'running on borrowed time.' Now the words were less than the harsh truth and more personal. He was now 'weird' and 'dorky' and 'wrong'.
The gay rumors started when Liam and Tyrellia left for guardian training full time. His parent had a new set of hatchlings numbering five strong males and they took all their attention. His sisters were maturing now and learning about how to be proper ladies of the court; they no longer wanted him, a boy, around for their frivolous lady talk. They were nice enough at first, but whenever asked if they looked pretty, he would once again find his stutter and his changing scales would betray him. At first they thought it cute, but they grew annoyed with it, thinking Niko was playing tricks on them. He was lost without Liam and the teasing was brutal in the way only children can be.
Niko was never more alone at this point. He took to wandering the woods outside the village his massive family occupied. He learned to be stealthy in his own the hard way; in a world of magic and ancient times, dragons are not the only things to fear on the forests. As time passed, Niko began spending days out in the wilds. Despite having grown stronger and less sickly, Nikolus was still young, weak, and had never had much combat training. Nikolus was late to mature into his wings and fly, and just as late to breathe his first successful flame. But he managed to survive by cunning alone, using the chameleon scales that had earn him so much teasing to change his appearance to the point he could essentially disappear into the canopy. It was on a particularly long adventure that he stumbled across her.
The Tigress: Niko never quite hit that phase most boys go through, where they discover all things sexual in one foul swoop and become smitten by any and every pretty girl they see. Nikolus wasn't naive enough that his didn't understand the harsh teasing that he was gay. But he wouldn't lie when he said he'd never felt even the faintest flicker of attraction towards a female before. They were all too frivolous and shallow or too tomboyish and stronger than him. But when he first saw her, the whole world shifted on its axis and suddenly nothing mattered anymore but to always be by her side. It didn't matter what relationship he had with her, so long as she was in his life, he knew everything would be alright.
He first saw her on the fringes of Sylvano's clan territory, where the lower ranking dragons lived. He didn't know much about the other clans outside his own, so he had no idea he'd wandered so far from home that he'd ventured on the outter fringes of Sordia lands.
It was a decent area, but they were often made of dragons who had married into the clan and lost their mate some way or another. The clans always took care of those in their clans, but the degrees at which how well cared for differed among many.
She was beautiful, even if somewhat plain looking by Royal standards with her pure white scales and green eyes. It was just her and her mother, her father having been killed by one of the beasts that roamed the forests protecting her. Niko returned to her little house next to the rice field her mother and aunt tended for days, weeks even, before she noticed him. She never travelled far from the fields because her mother kept a very close eye on her. Nikolus quickly saw she was a trouble maker when bored. When she finally slipped her mother, she stumbled upon him literally, hiding camouflaged in the fringes of the forest. She stared at him, blinking, then grinned. Up close Niko could make out the very subtle blue striping to each individual scales. Only his strong eye sight, so sensitive to subtle color changes, could see it so clearly. She reminded him of a tiger, with her toothy grin, faint stripes, and playful attitude. For as long as they knew each other, Niko only ever called her one thing.
Cat.
She reached out to touch him, because his scales hadn't turned back to reveal himself. Her touch sparked a change in his scales, each one changing in a ripple effect outward from her touch to mimic her scales before settling into his own scales. She cackled merrily and slapped the ground with her fore paws like a giant oversized puppy. "Wow, I bet you're good at hide and seek! let's play!"
It was the first time anyone has ever been just simply impressed by his strange mimicking and totally accepted it without a single thought.
Her name was Etheria and their friendship knew no bounds. She brought out Nikolus's dormant mischievous side. He no longer felt so awkward, so different. He finally belonged somewhere. There was no Liam or Tyrellia to hide behind or get lost in their shadows, it was him and Cat wreaking havoc among his clan and hers, making a name for themselves. Etheria shaped a great part of the current day Nikolus and he'd forever remember her and be thankful for her because of it.
Of Guardians & Ladies: As they grew and his clutchmates made a name for themselves, Niko grew worried. Etheria began spending long days away at schooling of her own. Her mother wanted her to become a proper lady and that meant being saddled with a guardian. He begged his mother, the more understanding and sensitive of his parents, to let him take up the mantle of warrior, even guardian. She was clan head alongside father, her word was law! She could simply title him warrior and guardian, couldn't she? She was sympathetic and tried to reason with Nikolus, but Brigham would have none of it. His harsh words of 'slacker' and 'freeloader' and 'pathetic' will always haunt Nikolus.
And then Tyrellia was assigned a charge in a Heric Family male when she came home. Holiday break they called it, but it was little more than glorified time off before being spirited away to live with their charge. Liam did not come home with Tyrellia. And Niko knew, his time with Etheria was over.
Liam began living with Etheria and her mother. They were transported from the lesser districts closer to the capital, closer to home, where Ladies where supposed to live. Yet despite being close, Nikolus was never farther away from his best friend. Liam was a good guardian, always watching Etheria, but he'd been lackluster and just plain ignorant before she'd been assigned as his charge. To say he'd been surprised of Nikolus's bond with Etheria was an understatement. It took a long time before Liam loosened enough to allow Etheria some space to do as she pleased. Liam was a strict guardian, a guardian who understood his duty on the physical level, but not emotional one. This strained his relationship with Niko. In an effort to make things better, he began to accompany Etheria and Niko on outings so the two could remain close. Eventually they came to a somewhat truce and Liam finally was talked into teaching them basic self-defense. One because Etheria was bound to get in trouble; he wasn't arrogant enough to think he'd be there always. Two, Niko would never be a warrior but he desperately needed someone to protect him. And that someone needed to be himself.
The Bastet: Time passed and as all children do, the dragons grew from adolescents into their first teenage years. Tyrellia and Etheria grew slender and curvaceous, wings narrowed and angled, human bodies grew hips and breasts. Liam and Niko grew lankier, legs too thin, wings too large, tails too long, voices cracked from high boyish tenors to deep adult baritones. The trio grew stronger in bonds, though there were still major cracks and strife at points. Fighting abilities grew and soon Liam had to sneak them outside the compounds from prying eyes because they had grown passed basic self-defense. But it was at times like this training when things seemed the most natural. Liam didn't want it to change.
Then it found them.
A creature considered legend itself, so little of it had been seen. A panther like beast with saber fangs capable of shearing dragon scale, armored fireproof fur, steel claws, and leather wings.
Liam had sensed its presence first, but it was Niko's superior eye sight that saw it. It was chaos and blood and fire and screaming. One minute Liam's coaching Etheria's human form in lock holds, then he's tensing and Niko is seeing and leaping. Humans shed skin for scale and wing, but it's too late. It's on Liam, who somehow manages to avoid having his throat slit. His fire isn't much but it's effective enough that the Bastet is singed and he's strong enough, big enough, that the Bastet is distracted. Long enough for Nikolus to stash away Etheria with her too bright scales, long enough for him to take her scales and lead it off. Liam wastes no time in sprinting for help.
Niko runs long into the night; it seems hours when in fact it's minutes. He's cornered, claws raking deep into a meaty thigh and jaws shearing through scale to break his tibia. His fire, weak as it is, is enough to keep the Bastet off him; to keep it from finishing him. It's just long enough for purple fire to rain from the heavens. Salvation comes into the form of a pissed off sister and brother duo, Guardians in their finest. But a Bastet is a powerful opponent and enough of a handful and danger to a full grown dragon. In the chaos of trying to get out of the line of fire, Niko is targeted again, but a killing blow for him is taken. Brigham arrives at last; his scorching ebony flames hit the Bastet square in the mouth, sending it screaming into the jungle once more.
They are saved; they live to see another day. Niko's bones will heal and his scars will forever pain him, but Tyrellia is not so lucky. She has no place among the Guardians or even Warriors with a shredded wing.
Gone: Niko's recovery was long and painful. His wound, while it may heal, was severe and Bastet saliva is nasty. He spends countless moons fighting infections of the bone, muscle, and even once nearly loses his life to pneumonia due to his immune system being so overworked. At one point, there was the question of him losing the leg. Brigham has always been a harsh father, loving in his own way and trying to bolster strength in his one wayward, sensitive son. But he can be downright cruel without meaning to and Niko's time home trying to recover is further slowed because of the stress of his father's disappointment and worry.
Tryellia is in shock, suffers from PTSD, and is cruel to Nikolus whom she blames in her rage (Niko cannot blame her for it is his fault); while Niko is the coward of the trio, Liam is the fearless and level headed one whilst Tyrellia has always been the hothead. Brigham worries for her terribly as she is no doubt his favorite. He says he no longer cares for her career, which is true to an extent. He wants her to live terribly and that means finding a new reason to live. Tyrellia's Charge is no longer that, now that she'll never be a Guardian once more, but he steps in as more. The Guardian-Charge bond has always been a wonder and it is no different between these two; roles are reversed now and Tyrellia finds her reason to live.
Niko does not.
Liam and Etheria have become all but ghosts. Liam barely shows his face and when Niko seems to come to his senses long enough to realize Liam is there, his brother is running out as fast as he can. Nikolus knows he feels guilt for his brother’s battle for health and his sister’s uncertain future. Etheria does not ever show her face. Nikolus does not know of her own crippling guilt and that Liam has buckled down to train her so her best friend, and Guardian, do not have to work so hard.
One night, when Nikolus is feeling rather well enough to no longer be watched closely, he slips out. Static clings to the air like a heavy cloak and the thunderstorm brewing is not a natural one. Something calls to him from deep within the clan’s inner sanctum and he heeds the call. When he sees her, he knows. Etheria’s thirst for knowledge and desire for strength have consumed her and her soul is dead. She is no longer Etheria, just a hollow vessel. The black runes crawling on her scales speak of the sins of ancient beings locked away. He feels no remorse as he watches Liam’s claws sink into her breast, feels no pain as her starlight scales fall little by little to the ground like twinkling lights.
Part of Nikolus dies that night with Cat.
Liam & The Beast: Liam and Nikolus are found by their mother, Clementine. Liam and Nikolus are wrapped firmly around the long cold and stiff body of their shared lover, taking comfort in each other’s pain. Clementine is a good mother despite her minor faults and she is the one who untangles her sons. She is the one who buries Etheria beside her own mother on Sylvano grounds despite it being forbidden. She is the one who will never speak of the great sin she committed in the burial. She is the one who holds her sons as they weep, the one who carries them back. She licks their wounds herself and does her best to keep her sons’ sanity together. But she is a warrior herself, a retired one who’s seen what too much war and fighting can do to those too young. She knows she cannot stop what is happening to both sons, only delay it and hopefully lessen the effects.
She’s somewhat successful with Liam. She keeps many things at bay for him, helps him find a new purpose despite him being stripped of so much. But try as she might, Nikolus can’t seem to understand her sudden desire to be so close to him. Nikolus was a lost cause years ago. He stays sane if only for his brother.
He as no one now, no big sister to bolster him, no best friend to help him cause trouble and see the light.
Except Liam.
Nikolus devotes his life to Liam, to see his brother through this. He focuses so much on his brother, his own health, and still serious wound, take a wild rollercoaster ride. Nikolus’s devotion on his brother is unwelcome in some part; Liam is torn and broken about Etheria. But Nikolus is dead and no one can see that. Something dark is growing in both brothers and when Liam begins exhibiting strong Wyvern traits thought long gone, things turn for the worse.
The night Beast first appears is much like the night Etheria died. Niko is terrified, for more reasons than one. He is losing his fight for his brother to this Berserker and his brother is trying to kill him. Beast nearly succeeds, but Nikolus finds his own strength and manages to push back. He awakens powers of his own that night, taking form of Beast’s metal skin long enough to wear the berserker out. His flames are strong that night, and their bright green color signifies a greater power. The smell of burning copper throws off the Beast long enough for Liam to gain control back.
Liam no longer pushes Nikolus away. Together they discover their new abilities the best way they can. Liam tries not to provoke Beast, for they soon discover Niko’s ability to take Beast’s metal armor is only temporary and requires a significant touch. It often leaves Niko with a new wound to explain. His powers work wonderfully well on others though, not requiring him to touch someone more than once like it does Beast. They experiment his flames and Liam’s electricity and sound. They don’t mess with Liam’s venom; they are too afraid Niko’s weak immune system will not fight off even the slightest dose.
They discover the Bastet’s saliva had copious amounts of Copper in it. Niko’s constant fight with his wound is caused not by a simply weak immune system, but by his body’s effort to focus on the copper toxicity. It learns to metabolize and even weaponized the copper it cannot rid itself of, but because it’s always working, his immune system will always remain weak.
Sylvano You Are Not: Time passes and they grow into their new abilities. Liam adapts to his new life and slowly things begin to come into focus for Liam. Liam no longer needs Niko to the level he used to and tries his best to keep Niko close. But Liam is a Warrior once more and now Heir; he has little time for his estranged brother.
During the long time periods where Niko was left alone, he began to turn inward; he was now the Liam form several years prior. He didn’t want anything to do with anyone and turned somewhat spiteful. He was jealous of Liam now, or more importantly, those who had his time. As his thoughts darkened, Niko began to experience black outs, time frames where his consciousness just seemed to slip. It was like his mind just left, but his body kept going. The blackouts were increasing in frequency and even length of time.
Until one night, Nikolus fell asleep. And awoke with his hand in the Great Queen’s chest, crushing her heart.
Only it wasn’t his hands, they didn’t even appear to have physical form, edges all misty and his scales?! They were gone?! It was like looking through the eyes of someone else! He was here yet he wasn’t, he could felt yet he couldn’t!
Then he heard the bellow, one he knew too well. His consciousness slipped away the split second after lightning lit up his word in a cacophony of screams and molten fire.
When he came too once more, he knew he should be dead. He couldn’t breathe air, only the blood on his lips; burnt scale, flesh, hair and bone. His wings were fused to his sides, the melted membranes a brittle crust. His mother stood over him, tears pouring from her bloodshot eyes, teeth bared in anger as the elders around him spoke of him. Of his fate.
Of Salaem.
Of his own personal Beast.
He didn’t know what was happening, only that he was dying, if not dead already, and that Clementine was speaking in a way that certainly moved him. “He is my son, my flesh and blood. I bore him as an egg for months, felt the spark of his life as he grew within my belly. No name can change that. Please, elders, let me try. I’ve done it before, I’ve sealed demons. Let me save my son or so help me, you will find a new Clan Head!”
Clementine managed to seal Salaem, but she could not extract him from Niko. Niko lost the memories of the council meeting and everything before the blackout that resulted in him killing the queen.
The sealing of Salaem left Nikolus whole and healed, but when he awoke, Clementine was the only one there. She could not give a reason for why her heart was breaking; he could see it in her eyes, the way her scale’s lost their luster. Then she spoke.
His Sylvano name had been stripped and he was to leave Clan ground and never come back on penalty of execution.
A Strange Family?: Nikolus left. He had no choice, despite his sudden desire to stay with the mother he never felt close to. Nikolus simply focused on surviving and before long felt himself fade away. It wasn’t a quite blackout, he still felt sensations from time to time. But eventually the blackouts happened again. Only this time, when Niko woke up for good, he found his brother, Liam, a newly reinstated guardian raising an adolescent child who was his charge. Liam invited him to stay for her had no place to go and Liam was not keen on letting his once dead brother fade away again.
Nikolus had come back to his Liam and wanted him for himself. Before he’d had the clan, even if it was a poor excuse for a family but now he didn’t even have that. Now all he had was Liam. And now he had to essentially give up any and all Liam time to this brat. Kaotanya was a bright child if not a bit strange like Niko was. At first, he was the annoyed grumpy uncle, the mean one who always glares at you for no reason. But Kaotanya was not perturbed in the slightest. Even when Nikolus had his bad days and made her cry, she always bounced back with that god awful cheer and exuberant look on life.
She was so like Cat, he couldn’t help but fall in love with her.
It’s a different, odd relationship they hold. He always seemed perturbed and annoyed by her, always teases her harshly and can be a bit mean at times, but Kao seems to like it that way. Kaotanya brought out a small side of Nikolus that had died that night with his ill-fated lover.
They made a strange family, and while he was never on Sylvano’s main grounds, he heard the rumors floating around Tyrellia’s own branch. “Playing house” many called it. But NIkolus wouldn’t let the rumors bother him much this go round. He was gaining attention; no longer was he ‘the sick one’ or ‘the brother’ but he had a name now. And he had a family, as disjointed as it is.
Then the Queen fell and rose again, only this time tied to Kao. And Niko’s family fell apart and was split once more. Only this time things will never go back.
