I heard you the first time. It was such a quiet, simple statement but it hit him as if she had screamed the words; as if she had been the one who threw a lamp at him. The silence stretched between them. He simply stood and stared at her while she stood staring at the ground. After so long of feeling numb, his mind was overwhelmed by the mountain of emotions attempting to push their way through. The desire to reach out and touch her. The desire to run far away from her. The desire to apologize over and over and over again.
But apologies weren’t going to cut it, he knew. It was clear to him that she was not here to accept his apology. He didn’t know what she wanted from him or if he was supposed to do anything. This wasn’t his forte, so he chose what he considered the safest route and continued to stand and do nothing.
His eyes widened slightly when she turned and walked to him, but he continued to stand still, his stance loose and as unthreatening as he could possibly make it. He knew a part of her would be afraid of him, no matter how strong she was. He tensed when her fingers pressed at his temples, eyes still trained on her face, her unseeing eyes now looking at him. Her fingers traveled up to his hair, brushing lightly against the injury on his head. He winced slightly, the pain shifting him slightly back to reality as she softly pushed him to the ground. His knees buckled immediately as he flopped down, the world shifting slightly in his vision.
She moved around him, sitting down behind him and coaxing him back against her. He felt he should protest but he didn’t quite have the energy to protest anyway. Her fingers continued to massage his temples, a strange warmth developing around them. He closed his eyes, enjoying the contact, enjoying her presence.
You threw a vase at me; for that split second you wanted to hurt me. It’s not something you forgive and forget, Kriton. He tensed despite the fact her fingers never stopped massaging his temples. He opened his eyes and stared up at her, studying her face before staring directly up at the sky, trying to think of what he could possibly say in this moment. He came up blank.
His tension grew as she detailed to him who the man was he had saw her with. He closed his eyes and clenched his jaw, grinding his teeth. He was so stupid. He had barely even thought about the reason he had been angry with her in the first place. It seemed inconsequential after what he had done to her. But of course, she was right. If he hadn’t been so thickheaded, none of this would had happened.
I’m not going to accept your apology. As she leaned forward and pressed her forehead to his, his confusion only grew. He wasn’t great at reading these types of emotions and he couldn’t figure out where she was going. He couldn’t decipher if there was a “but” in this scenario or if she was about to say goodbye and leave him for good. His stomach dropped as she started her rant. She was right, of course. Everything she said about him was right, but it still hit him like a ton of bricks. The tears dropping on his face felt like hot irons stinging his cheeks. He had caused her sadness. He was sure the end was coming.
He stared at her in amazement as the transformation came over her. Her human form shifting to the beautiful elven face he had grown to know. Her eyes shown, and she looked at him with renewed interest, and he felt as if she was truly seeing him. He locked eyes with her as she cradled his face, hardly able to breathe. And yet here I am, in love with you. The rest of her words tumbled over him as he barely grasped the meaning behind them. He broke into a grin when she smiled, unable to stop himself from smiling. He realized with a start that the tears on his face were no longer hers, but his own.
He moved slowly, pulling himself up and turning around, leaning down on his knees in front of her. He took her face in his hands, all of his motions slow, gently running his thumbs over her silver cheeks, his eyes roaming her face and memorizing every detail. He brought his gaze back to hers, staring into her glimmering eyes. ”I will do whatever you need me to do to prove myself to you. Whatever I need to say, whatever actions I need to do. I will prove to you that I can be better than I have been. I will prove to you that I’m not a mistake. I just need some guidance on where to start.” He held her gaze, still very unsure of himself and where they truly stood with each other.

"speech"/'thoughts'
Kaotanya took the moment to carefully study his face, her eyes following each line. She committed the shape of his jaw to mind, the sweep of his high, chiseled cheekbones. She’d never be able to tell the color of his eyes or hair or skin. It mattered not, because just the shape of his face was enough for her to satisfy the deep hunger of her curiosity.
She let Kriton rise from his position, shuffling back to rest on her thighs. Her hands fisted over the hem of her dress, her eyes never leaving his face for a second. Her heart beat a sharp, quick rhythm against her chest, threatening to burst past the bars of bone and marrow that held it back. She held her breath as his hands moved to oh so carefully cradle her cheeks. His hands were cool against the heat of her glistening skin. The heat now, though, that flushed her silver dusted cheeks was not from the magic that clung to her skin, but from a more natural response.
She listened carefully to his words, trembling beneath his touch. Each time his thumbs brushed against her skin, it made her heart leap and stomach flip. With shaking hands, she brought her hands up from her lap to cover his. A strangle sob broke past her quivering lips, one that was broken by hiccupping laughter. The dragon just shook her head, turning to nuzzle her nose into one of his hands. She breathed deeply, taking in his scent, committing it to memory.
“For one, I think…there are many things between us that need to be cleared up. We both have some secrets that need to…not be secrets,” she whispered, pressing his hands to her face and gripping his fingers in fear of the conversation soon to come. “For now though…just shut up and kiss me.”

Kriton smiled sadly at Kao’s hiccups, wishing this scene could be playing out differently. Instead of an emotional reunion, maybe they could have just come here together, as a couple. Instead of sadness and apologies, they could be enjoying each other’s company. They could be…
His thoughts trailed off as she started talking. We both have some secrets that need to… not be secrets. On instinct his mind started racing, weaving a story of white lies as he had been trained to do, anything to hide the truth of his actions but still be believable. But no, he thought, slowly pulling himself back. No more lies, no matter how small. Kao deserved to know the full truth of who he was and what he had done.
For now though… just shut up and kiss me. This snapped him to attention, his sharp eyes gazing at her, roaming slowly up and down her full frame, his pulse quickening ever slightly. He could refuse until after he had spilled his secrets, so she knew who he truly was. On the other hand, he could take the opportunity to have this moment with her in case it was the last moment they had. He returned his gaze to her sightless eyes, pausing for only a moment, then moved his hand to the back of her head, intertwining his fingers with her hair and pulled her to him. He pressed his lips to hers, gently at first, savoring the feeling and taste of her lips against his. They were soft, as he expected them to be. His grip in her hair tightened slightly as he deepened the kiss, his other hand moving to her lower back as he pulled her against him tightly. All of their surroundings faded away and it was just the two of them, seemingly floating through empty space.
